The options provided below assume that no one knows what the student's current password is, whether they are new or returning. The assumption is that all students will need someone to create an initial password and help the student through the process of creating a new one of their own.
There are two applications available for resetting student passwords, ClassLink and NIM(coming soon). ClassLink is available from anywhere, but NIM (coming soon) can only be accessed from inside the district.
There are also two approaches to managing the reset of student passwords -
create a temporary password and let the student create their own new one (Using ClassLink)
generate a new password (Using ClassLink)
Procedures and grade level appropriate worksheets are found on the Student Instructions page.
Teachers will only have the ability to manage passwords for students in their own classes after their accounts have been synced in ClassLink. Teachers are are only able to create temporary, single-use passwords for students enrolled in their classes.
At the beginning of the year, teachers may set an entire class to the same temporary password and then assist students as they log in the first time to set up their permanent password.
Teachers may assist individual students throughout the year to set up their passwords.
Resetting Passwords Through Teacher Console - ClassLink Support * [Video] All teachers will be able to set a temporary, single-use password for any student in their class. The student will be prompted to change their password immediately. It is important that the student be prepared to create their new password and set up their recovery questions.
Students entering PK-4 should all be treated as new students with the teacher managing passwords in ClassLink for their students.
Students will use a QR code to log into PISD devices
QR codes can be generated by teacher from ClassLink
Students will log in one time using the generated password and then use the QR code to log in after the first time.
ITOC Department (IT Operations & Cybersecurity --> formerly networking) will generate passwords for the entire campus and supply the campus with list.
If for any reason a PK-4 user needs a password reset:
The teacher can change student passwords in ClassLink
PK-4 student would then log in using the changed password
Update the Password with help from Teacher on a complex password
Teacher will print the new QR code for students to use after first time
If the teacher is absent, the Principal, Assistant Principal, Counselor, Tech Liaison, or Campus Technician can change student passwords for anyone on campus using NIM (NIM is new system)
Students entering grades 5-12, should have been required to set up their recovery options in ClassLink. If they can access ClassLink from their own mobile device or a Windows device that is already logged into the network, they should be able to use the "Forgot password" option and set up their new password. Students entering 5th grade who are required to change their password will also be required to set up their Recovery Options in ClassLink upon first log in to ClassLink.
Students will be able to create their own complex password of 8 characters
Password must:
Not contain your account name or parts of your full name that exceed two consecutive characters - Be at least eight characters in length and contain characters from three of the following four categories:
English uppercase characters (A through Z)
English lowercase characters (a through z)
Base 10 digits (0 through 9)
Non-alphabetic characters (for example, !, $, #, %)
Passwords must be unique 5 times before reusing a password
Students will be able to Recover their own passwords
Students will be required to answer their security questions
To change student password
Teachers can initiate password change from ClassLink and students will be forced to create a new password
If the teacher is absent, the Principal, Assistant Principal, Counselor, Tech Liaison, or Campus Technician can change student passwords for anyone on campus using NIM (NIM is new system)
At the start of the year, especially in 5th grade, teachers will need to initiate a password change for their class from ClassLink
