Gene Expression and Regulation
Gene Expression and Regulation
Gene Expression / Protein Synthesis
Central Dogma
Gene Regulation
Repressible:
-Natural state: ON but can be REPRESSED
-Corepressor binds to repressor protein, protein undergoes shape change, allows protein to bind to operator.
-RNA Polymerase is blocked from continuing transcription and translation of genes.
Inducible:
-Natural state: OFF but can be INDUCED
-Inducer binds to repressor protein, protein undergoes shape change, no longer allows repressor protein to bind to operator.
-RNA Polymerase is NO LONGER blocked from continuing transcription and translation of genes.
Alternative Splicing: Remove the noncoding regions (introns)!
Inducible Operon Example: lac Operon
Repressible Operon Example: trp Operon
