Instructions for Accessing Google Classroom from home.
As an additional support to parents and students at Our Lady Queen of Peace, we have set up Google Classroom Learning Environments for all students. Students will be able to access to a number of resources and learning activities that will support their learning whilst at school and also when faced with self confinement.
Below are guides to support you in accessing Google Classroom from home.
To support learning from home, we will continue to use a combination of Google Classroom and Zoom meetings to deliver learning programs.
Zoom meetings are a tool which allow participants to interact with each other in a live meeting environment. Students attending Our Lady Queen of Peace have free access to this tool using their parrastu email address. The Zoom meetings will be accessed via a link in each grade's Google Classroom.
There have been a few updates over the break to improve Zoom Meeting security. To access Zoom meetings, students now need to log into Zoom using the SSO option. Select the prompt "Don't Know Domain" and then enter the student's parrastu email address.
Once students have clicked the link from their Google Classroom page to join a meeting and signed in with SSO, students will be placed automatically in a Zoom Waiting Room. Their teacher will accept and give students access to the meeting once the meeting starts. This is another security step which has been automatically added to Zoom Meetings.
For help with downloading Zoom you can also watch this helpful video on How to Set Up the Zoom App for Students and Parents
In Zoom meetings students will be muted and their video turned off on entry so that only the teacher can speak and be heard. Students will be taught how to turn on their video and use the raise their hand option and one at a time teachers can unmute a student to speak to participate in the lesson.
Parents are welcome to be part of the meetings, especially for the younger students, in order to help them access the meeting. We wish to make clear, however, that it is not appropriate for parents to participate in Zoom meetings nor is it a time for parents to ask the teacher questions. This can be done in an email or phone call. This is just an opportunity for the students to connect with their teachers. Specific question and answer zoom sessions may be established by grade teachers which parent participation will be welcomed.
Please read carefully the guidelines for using Zoom for Parents and Students, as directed from CEDP.
We know this is new learning for all of us and there may be some glitches to begin so please be patient as we test our technology in an endeavour to strengthen the connection between home and school.
