Metacognition activities are beneficial in the collection and analysis of student/teacher data.
For example:
The information helped clarify to the students where they are at, and pointed to them the areas where they need to be working on.
For staff, it also showed them the areas that student's are struggling with. Even when we feel that we have covered everything, we often make assumptions about what students actually know and can do.
Here is another example of Yr 10s reflecting on their Composition task.
Having consistent reflection on where student's are, helps students and teachers find the areas that need more development in understanding. We can use this metacognition data to evaluate, analyse and point us in a direction to 'fill in' gaps that arise from the information provided.
