West Middle Theatre  and Media Courses

Exploring Theatre

In Exploring Theatre, students will gain skills in public speaking, using vocal and movement techniques that enhance creative self-expression and communication.  They will gain experience in generating original ideas spontaneously through improvisation and will learn how to develop a characterization within a dramatic setting.  Students will use their imaginations and will gain improved observational skills and self-confidence(6th Grade Students, 9 week course)

Creating Theatre Artist

Creating Theatre Artists course provides students the opportunity to develop communication skills and create theatre. Self-expression is unleashed as students learn to use sensory recall, strengthen concentration, and use their bodies and voices to develop characterizations. In addition, students use technical aspects to create environments supporting the action onstage. Thoughts, feelings, and emotions are demonstrated through actions in scripted and unscripted scenes. Acting and improvisational skills are matriculated and students learn to work collaboratively within an ensemble. (7th Grade, One Semester)

Theatre Productions

Theatre Production provides students the opportunity to explore their own interests in theatrical production. Students will then apply their skills in an actual production. Students will demonstrate proficiency in acting, design, construction, and leadership. They will analyze scripts, evaluate performances, perfect collaboration skills, and apply problem solving skills in an authentic performance opportunity. (8th Grade, One Semester)

Video Production

This multidisciplinary course will introduce students into the world of video production across varied digital platforms. In this course, students will create projects that encompass techniques used in the fields of Tv, Film, and Web based applications. Our students will work in cooperative learning teams to fulfill the jobs assignments of a production team by: writing and editing copy for teleprompters, creating and planning storyboards, directing, editing and filming scenes using a variety of cameras available to us, and serving as on air talent. The work could include the creation of student produced news for campus wide distribution; Student showcase through short film festival; and projects to enhance learning in other classrooms around the building. (8th Grade, One Semester)
