Important - Apply to College FAQ!
Naviance- Utilize it to request transcripts and letters of recommendation. You can also find admissions information for every college, by simply clicking on the college’s name. Make sure Naviance is up to date with all major deadlines.
Application Fees- Many schools do require an application fee to keep students from applying everywhere. If you qualify for free or reduced lunch, contact Ms. Meyer and she can send in documentation to waive your fee if the school allows.
Transcripts- Must be requested through Naviance. Don’t know how? Watch this! You do not have to wait until you complete your application to request documents (test scores, transcripts, letters of recommendation). Make sure when you request, that you indicate how you are applying (directly to the institution or Common App). You can track when these are sent in the Manage Transcripts option in Naviance.
Using Coalition App / Scoir? Make sure you request all documents through Naviance as “directly to the institution” instead of through the Coalition App. If you are only applying to a 1-3 schools, I would not suggest this option as it doesn’t link to Naviance very well and will require more than the normal application that you find on the school’s website.
Using Common App? Make sure your Naviance and Common App are matched and you remember to request transcripts. This is not automatic and you cannot request documents through Common App! Need help? Also, if you are only applying to 1-3 schools, I would not suggest Common App unless your school requires it. Find the shorter application on the school’s website and make it easier on yourself. Not sure which to pick, ask Ms. Meyer.
Test Scores- I can send unofficial test scores if you have taken an ACT or SAT. However, many schools want the official scores directly from act.org or collegeboard.org. Students are responsible for requesting these.
Teacher Letters of Recommendation- Not all schools require letters of recommendation and some won’t even look at them. Make sure you are checking the admission’s requirements before requesting letters of recommendation from teachers. This must be done via Naviance. Remember to send reminder emails to teachers if your deadline is approaching. This is the student's responsibility.
Counselor Letters of Recommendation- Complete the "Recommendation Information" survey in Naviance. It is under About Me > Surveys Assigned By School. Then email Ms. Meyer. There is no way in Naviance to request a counselor letter of recommendation.
Essay Help- I have shared this resource a few times, but I wanted to make sure that you had it, just in case!
Financial Aid- FAFSA is being revamped and is set to open between December 1 and January 1 at fafsa.gov. You can create your FSAID logins before October 1. The sooner you complete it, the better! Find more information on this and scholarships on our website.
