Petra Sumner
Petra is a Canadian girl from Salt Spring Island, British Columbia. Her mother is part of the RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) and her father is an ER doctor. Her role in the story is the perspective of the Swimmers, she is a human-cryptogenic hybrid (has scales on parts of her body, has a tail with a venomous barb, naturally amazing swimmer). Her problem is she wants to look normal again and She has an allergy to water.
Anaya Riggs & Parents
Anaya is a Canadian girl also from Salt Spring Island, British Columbia. Her mother is a pilot and her father is a botanist. Her role in the story is the perspective of the Runners, she is also a human-cryptogenic hybrid (has fur-like body hair, clawed hands and feet, and amazing strength, speed, and stamina). Her problem is that she has terrible allergies to almost every plant/pollen on earth.
Seth Robertson
Seth is a Canadian boy from British Columbia (not Salt Spring Island). He was orphaned by his parents when he was born because of his feathered arms. His role in the story is the perspective of the Flyers, he is a human-cryptogenic hybrid (has brightly colored sharp feathers on his arms and legs, is able to glide, is able to slash through almost anything with his feathers, can use a sound-based weapon using telepathy to knock out and give the victim a splitting headache). His problem is that even after 15 years he still hasn’t been adopted and is still searching for a family.
Dr. Ritter
Dr. Ritter is an old Scientist from the United States who has been tasked by the CIA and CSIS to find all of the Human-Cryptogenic Hybrids. while they are imprisoned he runs cruel tests on the kids.
Dr. Weber
Dr. Weber is a CSIS Agent and botanist from Canada who has been tasked by the CSIS to help study the Human-Cryptogenic hybrids. However, she strongly disagrees with Dr. Ritter's methods and is working to give the children the best life they can without being ostracized by society. She is the most respected scientist amoung the Hybrids and is even Seth's current foster mom. with her botony skills she along with the help of Mr. Riggs (Anaya's father) made the first herbicide that killed the alien plants.
Colonel Pearson
Colonel Pearson is a Canadian Navy Officer who commands Deadman's Island Naval base, He wasn't tasked with anything against the Hybrids but has played a major role in the North American operation against the Hybrid children including searching for the Hybrid kids, reporting them to Dr. Ritter, but also housing them in the time being before they are sent to Ritter. He also plays a major role in military force both working against and then with Dr. Weber and the Hybrids.
Esta
Esta is a 15-year-old Girl from the US. She had a similar story to Seth where she was left by her mother to live with her aunt because of the feathers she was born with. even after having them cut off at birth, she was still treated like an outsider and a freak. Because of the way she was treated at home, she developed rage and ferociousness on the inside and she never really got to express her emotions since meeting Seth has had a strong connection with him because of how much she can relate to his life before the invasion began.
Darren
Darren is a 16-year-old Boy from the US. Not much is known about his backstory other than the fact that he is a Swimmer with the same abilities as Petra. All that is known about his backstory is that he was saved from one of the Alien Pit Plants where the acid completely burned off his clothes, when he was saved from it the people saw that he had a tail and kidnapped him before bringing him to the Government and he ended up in the Hands of Dr. Ritter.
