I. Basic Expectations

The South High community expects you to behave in a positive manner conducive to an orderly educational atmosphere.  You are expected to differentiate between appropriate and inappropriate behavior in and out of the classroom and during any school-sponsored activity.  You will be held accountable for inappropriate behavior and are advised to familiarize yourself with the South High policies, Parkway Student Handbook Dashboard,  Nondiscrimination Notices (see these notices by clicking the link above (they are also linked below), and District Information (also linked below).

The use or display of cell phones or other personal electronic devices is prohibited during the entire school day, The use or display of cell phones or other “electronic personal communication devices” (“devices”) (as defined in Policy JFCD.BP) is prohibited from the beginning of the school day (the first bell) through the end of the school day (the last bell), including, but not limited to, during instructional time, meal times, breaks, time between classes, and study halls.
Further, District officials are authorized to confiscate a device if:  (1) the official determines that a student has disrupted the learning environment through the use or display of a device; or (2) has displayed or used a device during unauthorized times without permission.

Exceptions will be allowed when the display and use of the device is necessary due to an “emergency” (a serious, unexpected and dangerous situation that requires immediate action) or to comply with state and federal laws, such as to comply with a student’s IEP or 504 Plan. First Offense: Student conference, confiscation, or detention.
Subsequent Offense: Student conference, confiscation, detention, in-school suspension, or 1-180 days out-of-school suspension

• Technology Use Policy

Cell Phones

Adopted 06.2025 - Students may not display or use cell phones or other “electronic personal communication devices” (“devices”) (as defined below) from the beginning of the school day (the first bell) through the end of the school day (the last bell), including, but not limited to, during instructional time, meal times, breaks, time between classes, and study halls.

Inciting Conflict or Substantial Disruption

Purpose & Expectations: The purpose of this policy is to ensure that all students respect each other and maintain a positive, peaceful learning environment. South High does not support any behavior that encourages, instigates, or incites altercations or conflicts between students.  Students are expected to contribute to a culture of mutual respect, kindness, and nonviolence. Spreading false, malicious, or inflammatory information with the intent to create conflict, tension, or violence will not be tolerated. Additional South HIgh Infractions

At South High, the following infractions are inappropriate: truancy, skipping or unexplained absences, cheating, plagiarism, smoking, false alarms or threats, vandalism, graffiti (including spirit graffiti on school buildings or grounds), destruction of school or individual property, fighting, stealing, possession or use of a weapon, inappropriate sexual conduct, harassment, bullying, inappropriate use of technology, and being under the influence or in possession of alcohol, drugs or electronic smoking devices or paraphernalia on school grounds or while attending any school-sponsored activity.

The information listed above does not cover every possible situation.  It is the responsibility of the administration to review individual discipline cases and assess consequences that uphold the school and district, and to follow state and federal laws that apply to public schools.  In most circumstances, an administrator will contact your parent/guardian when it is believed that you have violated a school rule or have acted in a manner counter to the interests of the school community.  All students enrolled at Parkway South High are subject to the rules and regulations in this document.  The purpose of rules at South High is to provide you with a safe, enjoyable, and productive educational environment.
