Alpha radiation
Alpha radiation is a particle that is released from the nucleus of an unstable atom.
It is made up of two protons and two neutrons.
Alpha is the largest type of radiation, and it has a
mass
of 4.
2 protons + 2 neutrons = 4
Alpha has a
charge
of +2.
2 positive protons + 2 neutral neutrons = +2
Alpha particles travel a lot slower than beta and gamma particles. This is mainly due to its larger size and mass.
