Like the Phoenix, we can observe in our own lives that disintegration brings with it transformation and rebirth.

Welcome to Team Phoenix, one of the three 7th grade teams at Springhouse Middle School at Parkland School District. Seventh grade is a time for many students to experience great changes and a tremendous sense of transformation into young adults. As with most change, it is not always easy nor smooth, but our hope as your student's team of teachers is to help both students and parents alike weather the changes that are to come. We hope to share in the celebration of successes, not matter how small, and be the support for those more trying moments!
As a team, we highly recommend the use of individual folders or two smaller binders rather than 1 large binder for staying organized. The reason? Well, most middle school students treat their binders like the Thanksgiving turkey - the fuller it's stuffed, the better! By 7th grade, students will have 13 different classes (including specials). That is a lot of papers in one binder and most kids have a hard time keeping all of that material organized!
Our suggestions:
All Classes: A few highlighters, a lot of pencils, a few pens, and some loose-leaf paper should do the job. Wired headphones/earbuds (dollar tree has ones that work well) are extremely important this year, post-it notes, and colored pencils and other craft supplies, such as glue sticks and student scissors are also good to have on hand. A pencil case to hold materials is helpful, also.
Math - Mrs. Orr - Pencils, binder/ notebook with lined paper, CLEARLY LABELED calculator TI-30XIIS (highly recommended). Target Purchase
Math - Mrs. Myers - Pencils, binder/ notebook with lined paper, CLEARLY LABELED calculator TI-30XIIS (highly recommended). Target Purchase
Science - Mrs. Karetsky - Pencils, binder/ notebook with lined paper. In addition, G/HP students will need an additional composition "log book" for their science fair project.
Science - Mrs. Wimmer - Students should have a folder for science class.
Social Studies - Mr. Heimbach - SMALL (1" or less) 3 ring binder WITH pockets OR a pocket folder with prongs
Social Studies - Mrs. Gackenbach - Students need a DEDICATED social studies binder (1") and 5-dividers. Mrs. Gackenbach will do binder checks and collect them; I am certain you wouldn't want them handing it in and not having the materials for their other classes!
Language Arts - Ms. Reitnauer - 3 prong folder with two pockets (We highly suggest the heavy-duty plastic variety so it has a better change of surviving all year.) A small 1/2" binder could be used instead if preferred.
Other Subjects
*Have another folder for each period of the day that is not a core area but is a special subject. (Designating a folder by period is easier to remember than having one for each special area.)
Students will also be required to carry an SSR (silent reading) book at all times. Books may be checked out at the library, but may also want to be brought in from home.
Rule #1 - We will not bully others.
Rule #2 - We will try to help students who are bullied.
Rule #3 - We will try to include students who are left out.
Rule #4 - If we know that somebody is being bullied, we will tell an adult at school and an adult at home.
