2024 Judges
Makeeda Swan
Makeeda Swan is an actress represented by APM, one of South Africa's leading acting agencies. Known for her powerful emotional performances, especially in drama, she can also cry on cue. Makeeda has experience in sci-fi, where she explores complex characters in imaginative settings, and she is eager to expand her repertoire to include action, comedy, and romance. Her influences include local talents like Kim Engelbrecht and Gail Mabalane, as well as international icons Viola Davis and Zoe Saldana.
In addition to her acting career, Makeeda serves as an executive producer at Butterfly Films. She channels her on-screen experience and entrepreneurial spirit into shaping the company's South African division alongside her colleague Felix Seuffert. Together, they are committed to advancing the art of storytelling and filmmaking.
Tamzyn Baker
Tamzyn graduated from AFDA with a BA in motion picture medium majoring in editing. She worked on 20+ film sets during her 3 years of studying. During her 3 years she did directing, editing, cinematography, sound design, costume makeup, styling and set design. In her third year she interned at a production company which made documentaries.
She recently worked as a marketing executive for a company called The Harvest Table where she edited videos for Instagram and Youtube. She also ran the photoshoots and video shoots for the company.
Kyle Lewis
Kyle Lewis is one of the top music video directors in South Africa.
His keen instinct, a flair for youth culture, and by consistently pushing boundaries in-camera sees him teaming up with local and international artists like Cassper Nyovest, Khuli Chana, Nasty C, and Ricky Rick. Kyle's music videos have racked up millions of views on YouTube. In 2016, he directed half of the Best Music Video nominees at the South African Hip Hop Awards; and was nominated for a MTV Africa Music Award.
Today Kyle transitions seamlessly between music videos and advertising both in Africa and abroad. He is a talented visual storyteller, top performance director, and great collaborator, with the ability to find the right approach for every project.
Kyle works for brands such as Heineken, BMW, Nike, Volkswagen, Absolut, Vodacom, Nivea, and Castle Lager, to name a few. Kyle is bringing a fresh look to traditional advertising through his bold and colourful visuals.
Advertising accolades include Gold & Silver Loeries, Silver Bookmark, and Apex awards, and eight features on Shots in just over two years - the most of any South African director during this time.
Mr Joshua Wyngaard
You all know our awesome Dramatic Arts, Creative Arts, English & CAT teacher, Mr Wyngaard. Mr Wyngaard completed a Bachelor of Arts and Honours degree in Theatre and Performance.
In addition to teaching, Mr Wyngaard has also dabbled in acting and has performed in many South African films, including the award-winning film, “Felix”, where he played the character of Ricardo.
