In preparation for Sunday worship, here are questions to consider ahead of time. You can use these in your own devotion time, in conversation with family and friends, or in a small group setting. All are welcome to join one discussion group every Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Room 216 in the church.
We hope this practice will help you engage with the scriptural texts and sermon at a deeper faith level.
For January 25 worship:
This week's sermon: God’s Steady Voice
Scripture: 2 Timothy 3:14-17, Psalm 119:105
Guiding Questions:
When you hear the phrase “God’s steady voice,” what comes to mind? What does steady mean to you right now?
In 2 Timothy 3:14, Paul urges Timothy to “continue in what you have learned.”Why do you think faithfulness over time matters in hearing God’s voice? What habits or practices help you stay rooted when life feels uncertain or noisy?
Psalm 119:105 says God’s word is a “lamp” and a “light.” What does that image suggest about how God usually guides us? How does this verse challenge the idea that God will always show us the whole path at once? Can you recall a time when God’s guidance felt more like a slow, steady light rather than a dramatic sign?
In what ways have Scripture, tradition, community, or past mentors helped you recognize God’s voice? How do you tell the difference between God’s steady voice and other voices—fear, pressure, or culture? How can regular practices, like worship, small groups, prayer, or Scripture reading, help us recognize God’s steady voice over time?
How has your understanding of how God speaks changed over the last few weeks? Have you experienced God speaking to you in a new way? What do you hope to learn over the next few weeks with this sermon series?
Please join us this Sunday as we continue our sermon series, How to Hear God. This Sunday's message is God's Steady Voice and our scripture readings are 2 Timothy 3:14-17 and Psalm 119:105.
9 a.m. Sunday: Blended service with traditional elements and a variety of music including hymns, handbells and choir.
10:30 a.m. Spark! Worship: This service includes contemporary praise music, and an informal style that offers a play area for children, opportunities for you to be involved in service, and the freedom to practice prayer and worship in exciting and personalized ways.
5:30 p.m. 2nd Wednesday of each month: At The Table. We gather around a meal, share conversation and stories of faith, and complete a small mission project.
All requests to add an item to the Midweek should be emailed to Pastor Laura by 6 p.m. on Monday evening.
