On September 20, we will gather for a special single worship service as we celebrate our 1st and 3rd graders and present each child with their very own Bible.

Receiving a Bible is a meaningful milestone in a child's faith journey. We look forward to surrounding these children with love and prayer as they continue to learn, grow, and discover God's story.

Following the service, we'll have our Fall Fun Fest! Get ready for a giant slide, football, taco food truck, face painting, games and lots of fun for the whole family. We hope you'll join us!

Thank you for your generous donations of backpacks and school supplies! Because of your generosity, we were able to provide more than 70 backpacks filled with school supplies to students in our community. We were also able to purchase additional supplies specifically requested by teachers. Your generosity is helping make sure students have the supplies they need to start the school year ready to learn. Thank you for helping us share God's love in such a practical way!

Are you creative -- whether you work in pottery, photography, painting, drawing, quilting, knitting, crochet, metal sculpture, jewelry making, floral design, graphic art, crafts, woodworking, basket making, or any other art? We want to showcare your work!

A small team is planning a special afternoon open to the public with fun, food, fellowship and maybe a few ideas for Christmas presents.

Please let us know you are interested so we can move forward in our plans. Please contact either Lisa Jarratt or Jason Anderson, letting us know what type of art you would like to showcase and approximately how many pieces you would wish to display.

Our altar flowers each week are given in honor or memory of someone. We usually have one arrangement each Sunday. The church office orders from our vendor, Little Shop of Flowers. You do not need to contact our vendor directly; we handle it.

In preparation for Sunday worship, here are questions to consider ahead of time. You can use these in your own devotion time, in conversation with family and friends, or in a small group setting. All are welcome to join one discussion group every Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Room 216 in the church.

This week's sermon: Heart & Head

Scripture: Mark 12:30-31; Acts 8:26-40

Guiding Questions:

1. Our new series is Both/And. In life, we often think in terms of either/or, and we put people into those categories as well. As we consider the tension between heart and head, how is life different when the heart leads vs when the head leads? What are some of the real differences between these two?

2. Mark 12:30-31 is the familiar teaching of Jesus of the greatest commandments -- love God and love your neighbor. How are these very different commandments? Which one do you think is more related to the head and which one to the heart?

3. Acts 8:26-40 is the story of the interaction between Philip and the Ethiopian eunuch. Notice the different ways Philip responds to the situation -- with his head and then with his heart. Where was the Holy Spirit in these moments? What about the eunuch -- when was he responding with head faith and with heart faith?

4. There are times when our heart says one thing and our mind says another. Which one do you naturally follow more regularly? What makes the following the other one more challenging?

5. How is the either/or tension of heart and head important? not important? What is challenging you today with this tension?
