Do you wonder what our United Methodist Church believes about issues that are part of everyday living? Such issues may concern creation, economics, and how we live together.
The Social Principles of The United Methodist Church are thoughtful ways of engaging with our priorities and how they are lived out in community. These are statements with scriptural reflection on a variety of topics. No one is required to adhere to these principles, but they are a guide for how to live our lives.
Pastor Laura will lead a discussion on these social principles on Mondays, September 15 - October 20, from 6 - 7:30 p.m. Please let her know you are interested so she will have a study guide for you. Cost for the book is $11 (includes cost of shipping). You can also order the eBook from Cokesbury or Kindle.
Do you have a child who is getting ready to move and begin another year (or their first year) in college? Don't forget to share their mailing address with us!
We are collecting the names and addresses of our college kids so that we can send them letters and care packages from the church.
Email your college student's mailing address to Cody.

In preparation for Sunday worship, here are questions to consider ahead of time. You can use these in your own devotion time, in conversation with family and friends, or in a small group setting. All are welcome to join one discussion group every Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Room 216 in the church. You can also form your own discussion group.
Contact Doug McKinney if you are interested or have questions. We hope this practice will help you engage with the scriptural texts and sermon at a deeper faith level.
For September 7 worship:
Noah and His Ark
Scripture: Genesis 6:9, 11-22; Genesis 7:5, 16; 1 Peter 3:20-21
Guiding Questions:
Read Genesis 6:9, 11-22 and Genesis 7:5, 16. What is scripture trying to teach us here? What questions does this passage bring up to you?
What other cultures and religions have "flood stories"? Why do you think that so many others have similar stories? What are some of the lessons that we can learn from flood stories?
The early Christians believe that the ark was a symbol of the church. In what ways do you see the church like the ark? How, despite its flaws and failures, can we help make the church an ark of salvation for others we know?
Why do you think the animals were such an important part of the story? What does this story tell us about God’s relationship with all of creation, not just humans?
When have you experienced a "storm" in your life? How did God protect you? How were you able to weather the storm?
Please join us Sunday as we continue our sermon series, In the Beginning . . . An Exploration of Genesis. This Sunday's messsage is Noah and His Ark; our scripture readings are Genesis 6:9, 11-22; Genesis 7:5, 16; 1 Peter 3:20-21
9 a.m. Sunday: Blended service with traditional elements and a variety of music including hymns, handbells and choir.
10:30 a.m. Spark! Worship: This service includes contemporary praise music, and an informal style that offers a play area for children, opportunities for you to be involved in service, and the freedom to practice prayer and worship in exciting and personalized ways.
5:30 p.m. 2nd Wednesday of each month: At The Table. We gather around a meal, share conversation and stories of faith, and complete a small mission project.
All requests to add an item to the Midweek should be emailed to Pastor Laura by 6 p.m. on Monday evening.
