What if God can meet us in the most unexpected places, even at the movies? Join us the last two Sundays of summer as we end with our sermon series “Movies with a Message,” a sermon series that invites us to look at familiar stories through the lens of faith and discover where we see God’s love, grace, courage, and hope.

Whether you've seen this film a dozen times or have never watched it, there’s a message waiting for you. Come join us for worship, good stories, and a reminder that God is everywhere, even in the movies!

Join us for our exciting PUMC Fall Fair, hosted by the Adult Education Team, on Sunday, September 13 from 10 to noon in the Church Narthex and Commons area. 

This Fair is the perfect opportunity to walk around and chat with people representing PUMC church groups, ministries and teams. You can explore all the opportunities PUMC has to offer: opportunities for adults, teens and kids, to engage in small groups, larger fellowship groups, Missions, our Fine Arts choir and bells, and many other church service teams. 

Whether you want to grow in your faith, share your musical talents, or impact our local and global community, this Fall Fair is your gateway to a meaningful new season.

The Front Porch: Real Talk for Real People meets in room 138 from 9 - 10 a.m. The topic this Sunday is "Finding Our Story in God's Story: The Bible, Not Just  A Book On the Shelf," led by Rev. Doug McKinney. Childcare is provided.

Connections: Weaving Worship to Life meets in room 144 from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. This is an opportunity to reflect on the Sunday sermon and worship experience and to discover how God's Word connects to everyday life. 

Who Wrote the Bible? meets from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. in room 138 and also online. This class explores the origins, authorship, and development of the Biblical books. The topic this coming Sunday is "Acts: What Came After the Gospels," facilitated by Nate Southerland. You may participate via Zoom using this link.

On September 20, we will gather for a special single worship service as we celebrate our 1st and 3rd graders and present each child with their very own Bible.

Receiving a Bible is a meaningful milestone in a child's faith journey. We look forward to surrounding these children with love and prayer as they continue to learn, grow, and discover God's story.

Save the date! On Sunday, September 20, we will have a single worship service at 10:00 a.m.

Following the service, we'll have our Fall Fun Fest! Get ready for a giant slide, football, taco food truck, face painting, games and lots of fun for the whole family. We hope you'll join us!

Thank you for your generous donations of backpacks and school supplies! Because of your generosity, we were able to provide more than 70 backpacks filled with school supplies to students in our community. We were also able to purchase additional supplies specifically requested by teachers. Your generosity is helping make sure students have the supplies they need to start the school year ready to learn. Thank you for helping us share God's love in such a practical way!

Want to have fun, play games, and sing? Then join the Children's Choir. Geared towards children kindergarten through 5th grade, we practice September - April immediately following the 9 a.m. service from 10:00-10:15 a.m. The first practice starts Sunday, September 6. We hope to see you then! Build fellowship and friends while having fun and making music!!

Do you love to have fun, learn, make music, and worship God? Our handbell group is open to 5th grade through high school students. Any level of musician is welcome but having fundamentals is helpful. Practice is Monday evenings, 6:15 - 7:15 p.m., beginning September 14th to April. This handbells group will perform in worship 4 times a year.

Our altar flowers each week are given in honor or memory of someone. We usually have one arrangement each Sunday. The church office orders from our vendor, Little Shop of Flowers. You do not need to contact our vendor directly; we handle it.

In preparation for Sunday worship, here are questions to consider ahead of time. You can use these in your own devotion time, in conversation with family and friends, or in a small group setting. All are welcome to join one discussion group every Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Room 216 in the church. 

We hope this practice will help you engage with the scriptural texts and sermon at a deeper faith level. 

For September 6 Sunday worship:

• This week's sermon: Moana: Do Something Courageous (Faith Over Fear)

• Scripture: Isaiah 43:1-2, 18-19; 2 Timothy 1:7

• Guiding Questions:

1. This week we focus on the Disney classic, Moana. This movie tells the story of a young woman named Moana who feels called to go beyond the reef. We could say the reef is a comfort zone. What is your comfort zone? What is comfortable for you and what is uncomfortable? This can apply to a lot of different situations.

2. Moana finds herself on a journey, an adventure, that she wasn't fully prepared for. Perhaps there is a time or a situation where you were not fully prepared for the journey or for what would happen. What was the most difficult part? What did you learn about yourself? 

3. Today's verses in Isaiah 43 remind us that the Lord God created us and has called us by name. What does it mean that God created you? That God calls you by your name? 

4. 2 Timothy 1:7 is Paul reminding Timothy to remember that God gives us the power and courage we need to do difficult things. Power and courage are thus gifts. When have you had courage to do something that seemed impossible? Looking back, can you note where God was in the situation?

5. These scripture passages and the movie teach us that God is with us, encouraging and empowering us, to do something we'd never consider. What does this mean for you today? Is there a calling or are you wondering if you are supposed to do something that seems near impossible?

• 5:30 p.m. 2nd Wednesday of each month: At The Table. We gather around a meal, share conversation and stories of faith, and complete a small mission project.
