What if God can meet us in the most unexpected places, even at the movies? Join us the last two Sundays of summer as we end with our sermon series “Movies with a Message,” a sermon series that invites us to look at familiar stories through the lens of faith and discover where we see God’s love, grace, courage, and hope.

The two movies in this year's sermon series are:
August 30 — Wicked: Created to Make A Difference
September 7 — Moana: Do Something

Whether you've seen these films a dozen times or have never watched them, there’s a message waiting for you. Come join us for worship, good stories, and a reminder that God is everywhere, even in the movies! We hope you’ll join us!

Each Sunday you can drop in to one of our Adult classes -- no advance prep is required. Please join us this Sunday! 

The Front Porch: Real Talk for Real People meets in room 138 from 9 - 10 a.m. The topic this Sunday is "What if doing nothing is faithful?," led by Rev. Carolyn Young. Childcare is provided.

Connections: Weaving Worship to Life meets in room 144 from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. This is an opportunity to reflect on the Sunday sermon and worship experience and to discover how God's Word connects to everyday life. Drop in following the 9 a.m. service.

Who Wrote the Bible? meets from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. in room 138 and also online. This class explores the origins, authorship, and development of the Biblical books. The topic this coming Sunday is "The (Very Different) Gospel of John," facilitated by Ron and Leah Wyckoff. You may participate via Zoom using this link. 

Want to have fun, play games, and sing? Then join the Children's Choir. Geared towards children kindergarten through 5th grade, we practice September - April immediately following the 9 a.m. service from 10:00-10:20 a.m. Build fellowship and friends while having fun and making music!!

Do you love to have fun, learn, make music, and worship God? Our handbell group is open to 5th grade through high school students. Any level of musician is welcome but having fundamentals is helpful. Practice is Monday evenings, 6 - 7 p.m., from September to April. This handbells group will perform in worship 4 times a year.

It's time! Sign up to volunteer at our October packing event using this link. You can also donate with this link and choose the fund, Mission FMSC, to help cover costs of helping to feed starving children. We still need $10,000 to meet our required $30,000 fundraising target. Both the church and FMSC can accept appreciated stock and securities.

This mobile pack event is open to the community and has been onging since 2014. We have packed 1.5 million meals since that time! Please share this opportunity with your family & friends, community groups, and others. You can volunteer to help pack meals that will feed starving children and bring the gospel to children around the world who are in need.

Until All Are Fed and Follow Our Food

In the past, there were parking spaces available on Pine Drive just east of the church's parking lot. The Town of Parker has repaved Pine Drive and added a bike lane. This has removed those parking places.

We wanted to alert you about this change. We don't know if these places will be monitored, but wanted to let you know just in case.

Our church cares about your spiritual health as well as your need to be a good steward of your tangible and financial assets. Being a good steward of your assets is difficult after your death unless you establish a plan to carry out your wishes. That plan is a Will or Trust.

These documents spell out who will have guardianship of minor children and how assets are distributed (family, friends, church, other organizations). Without a Will or Trust, Colorado statutes will decide how your assets are distributed rather than you.

It is easy to procrastinte. After all, it requires us to think about our death. But having a Will or Trust in place is a gift to others.

There are 4 separate funds that make up Parker UMC's Endowment Fund:

1. Scholarship Fund: started in the mid-80s with a $10,000 donation, and additional contributions have grown the fund to over $70,000.

2. General Fund: started in the mid-90s mostly with a bequest of $85,000, and additional contributions plus appreciation have increased the fund to over $200,000.

3. Stroh Fund: started with the sale of the parsonage in 2001 with $304,000. The fund has a current value of approximately $530,000.

4. Preschool Fund: started with a gift of $100,000 in 2019. Additional contributions and appreciation have increased the fund to approximately $150,000.

Our altar flowers each week are given in honor or memory of someone. We usually have one arrangement each Sunday. The church office orders from our vendor, Little Shop of Flowers. You do not need to contact our vendor directly; we handle it.

Are you 50-80+ and love to sing? Join the 5280 Senior Chorales at Parker on a musical journey this fall that celebrates the transition of the seasons and the joy of the holidays.

Rehearsals are each Wednesday, 12 - 2 p.m., in the Parker UMC sanctuary, September 2 - November 4.

Join this fun, challenging and fulfilling 10-week program by registering online and select PARKER under the JOIN US / REGISTER tab. Registration deadline is September 9 and Registration Fee is $175.

In preparation for Sunday worship, here are questions to consider ahead of time. You can use these in your own devotion time, in conversation with family and friends, or in a small group setting. All are welcome to join one discussion group every Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Room 216 in the church. 

We hope this practice will help you engage with the scriptural texts and sermon at a deeper faith level. 

For August 30 Sunday worship:

• This week's sermon: Wicked: Created to Make a Difference

• Scripture: 1 Peter 4:7-11; Matthew 5:14–16

• Guiding Questions:

1. This week we start our summer movie series.  Why are stories important for us to listen and pay attention to?  How can we learn about God in new ways through the stories around us?

2. In the movie, Wicked, Elphaba (the green witch) is often seen as “different” and branded in her community as an outcast. When have you ever felt like you didn't quite fit in? Who are those you see in our communities who are branded as "different" and who don't quite fit in?

3. Sometimes we try to hide the things that make us different. What if the things that make us different are actually some of the things God can use most?

4. 1 Peter 4:10 says that each person has received a gift. What do you think your gifts might be? Why do you think Peter connects our gifts with serving other people? What gets in the way of people using their gifts? 

5. In Matthew 5:14–16, Jesus calls us the light of the world. What do you think that means? What are some ways a person can “let their light shine” without trying to be the center of attention?

6. Think of someone who has used their gifts to make a difference in your life or community. How does knowing that you were also created with gifts and purpose change the way you see yourself?

• 9 a.m. Sunday: Blended service with traditional elements and a variety of music including hymns, handbells and choir.

• 10:30 a.m. Spark! Worship: This service includes contemporary praise music, and an informal style that offers a play area for children, opportunities for you to be involved in service, and the freedom to practice prayer and worship in exciting and personalized ways. 

• 5:30 p.m. 2nd Wednesday of each month: At The Table. We gather around a meal, share conversation and stories of faith, and complete a small mission project.
