In preparation for Sunday worship, here are questions to consider ahead of time. You can use these in your own devotion time, in conversation with family and friends, or in a small group setting. All are welcome to join one discussion group every Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Room 216 in the church.
We hope this practice will help you engage with the scriptural texts and sermon at a deeper faith level.
For March 8 worship:
This week's sermon: The Good News is . . . Together, the Impossible is Possible
Scripture: Mark 6:32-44; Ephesians 3:20-21
Guiding Questions:
This week we reflect on what is possible when we come together. Our first reading is Mark's account of the feeding of the 5,000+. Imagine you are one of the disciples. What is your biggest fear when Jesus seems to tell you to get them something to eat? What else runs through your mind?
This story in Mark 6:32-44 is called by different names in our Bibles. What are some of those names, phrases, headings? What is miraculous about this experience?
Chapter 3 of Paul's letter to the Ephesians is another example of how Paul recounts God's grace in his life. The last 8 verses is a prayer for the church, that the Spirit and Christ dwell in them so that they might fully know God's grace themselves. Read these verses (14-19) and hear them as a message from Paul to you. What does this message inspire in you?
Verses 20-21 are Paul's prayer that God might work within us in order "to accomplish abundantly far more than all we can ask or imagine." What might God be calling us to accomplish that seems unimaginable? What worries do you have about God asking you to do something, or even dream something?
Please join us this Sunday as we continue our sermon series, The Good New Is.... This Sunday's message is Together, the Impossible is Possible and our scripture readings are Mark 6:32-44; Ephesians 3:20-21.
9 a.m. Sunday: Blended service with traditional elements and a variety of music including hymns, handbells and choir.
10:30 a.m. Spark! Worship: This service includes contemporary praise music, and an informal style that offers a play area for children, opportunities for you to be involved in service, and the freedom to practice prayer and worship in exciting and personalized ways.
5:30 p.m. 2nd Wednesday of each month: At The Table. We gather around a meal, share conversation and stories of faith, and complete a small mission project.
All requests to add an item to the Midweek should be emailed to Pastor Laura by 6 p.m. on Monday evening.
