MIDWEEK MESSAGE
Souper Bowl of Sharing Extended
No matter how exciting or boring this Sunday's Super Bowl was, we can still support two of our missions.
Many thanks to those who supported Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) fund this past Sunday. All proceeds will support those who will pack meals in October.
If you were unable to please bring non-perishable food items to church, it's not too late! Drop off items at church by Sunday, February 15. These will be delivered to Parker Task Force to help supply their food bank.
Mark your calendars for the FMSC MobilePack on October 2-3, 2026.
Thank you so much!

Youth Scholarship Application
The PUMC Endowment Team reminds high school seniors who have been active in our church and who are going on to higher education to submit a Scholarship Application by April 30, 2026. Pick up a copy of the application at the church office or download it now. Email your completed application to Pastor Cody or Candi Robinson.
Hygiene Kits for Those in Need
Alright PUMC, it's go time. We’re rallying to pack UMCOR hygiene kits that go straight to disaster survivors across the U.S. and beyond. When people lose everything, these kits are often the first sign that someone cares. Let’s pack the collection tubs next to the Manna bag station with generosity. Bring your donations now through Sunday, March 8 (packing at 10:00–10:30 a.m.) and let’s show up in a big way. Follow the list below exactly – UMCOR has specific standards due to shipping items both here and abroad – and let's show up in a big way as Parker UMC!
1 Hand towel (15”x25”–17”x27”) (No kitchen, cleaning, or microfiber towels)
1 Washcloth (No kitchen, cleaning, or microfiber towels)
1 Sturdy comb (at least 6” of teeth) (No pocket combs or picks)
1 Toenail or fingernail clipper (No emery boards or metal files)
1 Bath-size soap (3 oz. or larger) (No Ivory or Jergen’s; leave soap in its packaging)
1 Adult toothbrush (Leave in its packaging; no advertising)
10 Adhesive bandages (¾” x 3”)
1 One-gallon re-sealable bag

Ushers Needed for One Sunday a Month
Looking for a great place to serve? We need your help!
We are looking for ushers to serve once a month on Sunday mornings. Ushers help greet at the Sanctuary doors, hand out bulletins, direct people if they have questions, pass out offering plates, and then help clean up after the service.
To get more information or to say "YES!" please email Pastor Cody.
Save the Date for VBS!
Save the date for our annual VBS, Rainforest Falls, June 29 - July 2. Beneath a canopy of chattering birds and howling monkeys, kids plunge into a lifelong adventure of discovering the nature of God. They’ll explore what it means to be rooted in relationship with God, their creator, a safe place in life’s storms. Registration opens on March 1. To volunteer or find out more information email Noelle.
New Lenten Study Has Begun
This weekly Lenten study offered by the Rev. June Webster begins on Monday, February 9 at PUMC at 12:00 noon in Room 138 and will last for one hour. The class dates are February 9 - March 23, for seven classes in all.
The study will focus on the book The Last Week: A day-by-day Account of Jesus's Final Week in Jerusalem by Marcus Borg and John Dominic Crossan (2007). Note: the book has an alternate subtitle on some copies: The Last Week: What the Gospels Really Teach about Jesus's Final Days in Jerusalem.
Please let June know if you are interested in attending or have any questions.
Pastor Laura's Lenten Class
Pastor Laura will lead a study on Adam Hamilton's book, Why Did Jesus Have to Die? The Meaning of the Crucifixion. Join the class on Mondays, February 23 - March 30, at 6 p.m. in room 138.
Please purchase the book on Amazon or Cokesbury or let Pastor Laura know by February 16 if you need her to purchase a copy for you. It took awhile for her to get hers.
You can let Pastor Laura know you are planning to participate. She can also send you the Zoom link should you need to participate virtually.
Parker UMC's Scholarship Endowment
Each spring, we are able to honor and support many of our graduating high school seniors with a scholarship award. This is possible because others, in our church's past, have given to the Scholarship Endowment. College costs continue to rise, and we would be able to give large amounts if our Scholarship Endowment Fund could grow. Please consider a gift today.
In preparation for Sunday worship, here are questions to consider ahead of time. You can use these in your own devotion time, in conversation with family and friends, or in a small group setting. All are welcome to join one discussion group every Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Room 216 in the church.
We hope this practice will help you engage with the scriptural texts and sermon at a deeper faith level.
For February 15 worship:
This week's sermon: Discerning God’s Will for Your Life
Scripture: Romans 12:1-2, James 1:5-7
Guiding Questions:
When you hear the phrase “God’s will,” what emotions or thoughts come up for you? (Comfort? Anxiety? Confusion? Hope?) Share about a time you had to make a difficult decision. What helped guide you?
Read Romans 12:1-2. Paul says to “present your bodies as a living sacrifice.” What do you think it looks like to offer your life to God in everyday decisions?
Romans says to “not be conformed to this world.” What are some ways our culture pressures us when it comes to choices, priorities, or success? What does it look like to not be conformed to this world? What does it mean to have your mind “renewed”? What practices help renew your mind spiritually (prayer, scripture, worship, community, rest)?
Paul connects transformation with discernment: “Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is…” Why do you think discernment is often a process, not a quick answer?
Read James 1:5-7. What’s the difference between asking God for wisdom and asking God for a specific outcome? What are some areas of life where you are currently seeking God’s direction? (Relationships, work, parenting, calling, faith, justice, next steps) How can we tell the difference between God’s voice and our own fears or desires?
Please join us this Sunday as we continue our sermon series, How to Hear God. This Sunday's message is Discerning God's Will For Your Life and our scripture readings are Romans 12:1-2 and James 1:5-7.
9 a.m. Sunday: Blended service with traditional elements and a variety of music including hymns, handbells and choir.
10:30 a.m. Spark! Worship: This service includes contemporary praise music, and an informal style that offers a play area for children, opportunities for you to be involved in service, and the freedom to practice prayer and worship in exciting and personalized ways.
5:30 p.m. 2nd Wednesday of each month: At The Table. We gather around a meal, share conversation and stories of faith, and complete a small mission project.
All requests to add an item to the Midweek should be emailed to Pastor Laura by 6 p.m. on Monday evening.
