MIDWEEK MESSAGE
MIDWEEK MESSAGE
Souper Bowl Sunday
Sadly, the Denver Broncos are not in the Super Bowl. However, we will still celebrate by supporting two of our missions.
First, please bring non-perishable food items to the narthex this Sunday, February 8. These will be delivered to Parker Task force to help supply their food bank.
Second, we will also pass around soup pots during the children's message for monetary donations. These donations will support our Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) fund. Funds collected will help cover packing fees for groups, like our youth group, Scouts, and sporting teams. Often groups want to volunteer by helping pack, but don't have the $50 per person packing fee.
Mark your calendars for the FMSC MobilePack on October 2-3, 2026.
Thank you so much!
At The Table
Join us on Wednesday, February 11 from 5:30-7:00 p.m. for At The Table, our monthly dinner worship experience. At The Table, we share a meal, conversations about life and faith, and do a mission project together.
This month's mission project is to pack Manna Bags.
To sign up to help provide the meal, click here.
To RSVP, email Pastor Cody.
Lent Is Coming!
Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, February 18, and we need your help! This is one of our biggest community outreaches as we provide drive-thru ashes in the morning and afternoon. Please let Pastor Laura or Pastor Cody know if you can help greet people in our parking lots and mark your calendars for these different opportunities to participate!
Join us on Ash Wednesday in one of 3 ways:
Drive-thru ashes in the church parking lot, 7 - 8:30 a.m.
Drive-thru ashes in the church parking lot, 4 - 5:30 p.m.
Ash Wednesday service in the sanctuary, 7 p.m.
And make sure to spread the word and invite your neighbors and friends!
Youth Scholarship Application
The PUMC Endowment Team reminds high school seniors who have been active in our church and who are going on to higher education to submit a Scholarship Application by April 30, 2026. Pick up a copy of the application at the church office or download it now. Email your completed application to Pastor Cody or Candi Robinson.
Hygiene Kits for Those in Need
Alright PUMC, it's go time. We’re rallying to pack UMCOR hygiene kits that go straight to disaster survivors across the U.S. and beyond. When people lose everything, these kits are often the first sign that someone cares. Let’s pack the collection tubs next to the Manna bag station with generosity. Bring your donations now through Sunday, March 8 (packing at 10:00–10:30 a.m.) and let’s show up in a big way. Follow the list below exactly – UMCOR has specific standards due to shipping items both here and abroad – and let's show up in a big way as Parker UMC!
1 Hand towel (15”x25”–17”x27”) (No kitchen, cleaning, or microfiber towels)
1 Washcloth (No kitchen, cleaning, or microfiber towels)
1 Sturdy comb (at least 6” of teeth) (No pocket combs or picks)
1 Toenail or fingernail clipper (No emery boards or metal files)

Ushers Needed for One Sunday a Month
Looking for a great place to serve? We need your help!
We are looking for ushers to serve once a month on Sunday mornings. Ushers help greet at the Sanctuary doors, hand out bulletins, direct people if they have questions, pass out offering plates, and then help clean up after the service.
To get more information or to say "YES!" please email Pastor Cody.
Save the Date for VBS!
Save the date for our annual VBS, Rainforest Falls, June 29 - July 2. Beneath a canopy of chattering birds and howling monkeys, kids plunge into a lifelong adventure of discovering the nature of God. They’ll explore what it means to be rooted in relationship with God, their creator, a safe place in life’s storms. Registration opens on March 1. To volunteer or find out more information email Noelle.

The study will focus on the book The Last Week: A day-by-day Account of Jesus's Final Week in Jerusalem by Marcus Borg and John Dominic Crossan (2007). Note: the book has an alternate subtitle on some copies: The Last Week: What the Gospels Really Teach about Jesus's Final Days in Jerusalem.
Please let June know if you are interested in attending or have any questions.
Pastor Laura's Lenten Class
Pastor Laura will lead a study on Adam Hamilton's book, Why Did Jesus Have to Die? The Meaning of the Crucifixion. Join the class on Mondays, February 23 - March 30, at 6 p.m. in room 138.
Please purchase the book on Amazon or Cokesbury or let Pastor Laura know by February 16 if you need her to purchase a copy for you. It took awhile for her to get hers.
You can let Pastor Laura know you are planning to participate. She can also send you the Zoom link should you need to participate virtually.
Why Have an Endowment Fund?
Like many other churches, Parker UMC has built an endowment fund that assures a flower of funds that will support some of the church's ministries for generations to come. The love and caring of those who have given have provided a basis for a lasting legacy. Your gifts and provisions in your will today and will make a difference for your children and their children, as this church will continue to provide ministries to the Parker community and around the world.
In preparation for Sunday worship, here are questions to consider ahead of time. You can use these in your own devotion time, in conversation with family and friends, or in a small group setting. All are welcome to join one discussion group every Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Room 216 in the church.
We hope this practice will help you engage with the scriptural texts and sermon at a deeper faith level.
For February 8 worship:
This week's sermon: When God Speaks Through Others
Scripture: Acts 13:1-3, Proverbs 15:22
Guiding Questions:
Acts 13:1-3 shows us how Barnabas and Saul (soon to be called Paul) are chosen by the Holy Spirit "for the work to which I have called them." How did they respond?
Read the rest of chapter 13 and consider, what was the work they were called to do? Notice how often the Holy Spirit is referenced. What does it mean that the Holy Spirit plays such a big part of this story? What does it say to you when you consider you might be called as well?
Proverbs 15:22 gives important advice. What does this verse say to you? How does it help you understand yourself? understand others?
Who are the advisers in your life? When have you received their advice that helped you at some point? When have you been an adviser for someone else?
The other title for this sermon is Community Discernment. How has our community of faith discerned the Holy Spirit's call? discerned the advice from an adviser? How has this made a difference?
Please join us this Sunday as we continue our sermon series, How to Hear God. This Sunday's message is God's Steady Voice and our scripture readings are 2 Timothy 3:14-17 and Psalm 119:105.
9 a.m. Sunday: Blended service with traditional elements and a variety of music including hymns, handbells and choir.
10:30 a.m. Spark! Worship: This service includes contemporary praise music, and an informal style that offers a play area for children, opportunities for you to be involved in service, and the freedom to practice prayer and worship in exciting and personalized ways.
5:30 p.m. 2nd Wednesday of each month: At The Table. We gather around a meal, share conversation and stories of faith, and complete a small mission project.
All requests to add an item to the Midweek should be emailed to Pastor Laura by 6 p.m. on Monday evening.
