TEACHERS: ENGAGE YOUR CLASS WITH WRITE OUT

Write Out

Write Out is an opportunity for teachers to connect their students to National Parks through classroom writing activities. Living River Online and the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area are two great resources for writing inspiration. The main theme for 2023-2024 is Poetry, Prose, and Parks!

THREE WAYS TO CONNECT

Write Out is a free two-week national celebration of writing, making, and sharing inspired by the great outdoors. It is a public invitation to get students outside and writing that is supported with a series of online activities, made especially for educators and students to explore national parks and other public spaces. The goal is to connect and learn through place-based writing and sharing using the common hashtag: #writeout. Use the link to connect with other teachers and to receive more information and resources as the October 8 Write Out start date approaches. You can also email the Write Out team for more information. Here is a link to some cool national events during the two week Write Out time period.

Keep your students writing all year by using writing prompts inspired by Working River Online! Monthly prompts are located on the Write Out Prompt page as part of this website. Show your students a new prompt each month to get them thinking and interacting about what they are learning through Living River Online or what they are inspired by from the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area. Prompts may include a picture, a quote, a video, a graphic, or some other form of inspiration to be used in conjunction with this year's theme of Poetry, Prose, and Parks. Be sure to check back each month for new prompts!

The Write Now Teacher Studio is a great place for teachers who are interested in all things writing, both for themselves and for their classrooms. Get connected with thousands of teachers and topics related to writing. Here's an invite link! There's even a Write Out feed for those wanting to share more with others who are connected to the Write Out project and our national parks.
