Thinking About Retirement?

Getting Ready for Retirement (Rule of 85)

In general, you are eligible for benefits under the Retirement Plan provided your age plus your years of experience equal 85 and you have at least 15 years within Park County School District 6.

Below are important considerations if you end employment with Park 6 and are retirement eligible. If you are uncertain as to whether you qualify to be a retiree, please contact the Wyoming Retirement Benefits Department at 1-307-777-1977.

  • Contact the Wyoming Retirement Benefits Center no sooner than 2 weeks before your last day of employment, generally the same as your retirement date.
  • A Wyoming Retirement Representative will walk you through the benefit election process over the phone. If you are not ready to make your benefit elections at that time.
  • Contact the Park 6 Human Resource Department at 307-587-1193. The Human Resource Department can provide you with information to consider regarding the effect of your retirement on other benefit plans.
  • Typically, employees notify organizational management one to three months prior to their planned retirement date. Management will contact Human Resources, who will then make arrangements with you for an exit interview. If you would like the Certified Retirement Incentive (Policy GDC) all notifications for retirement must be turned in to HR by February 1st.
  • Remember to update Park 6 with your contact information (including your address and phone number) throughout your retirement by calling the Business Office at 307-587-4293.
