The Nonpublic School Nursing Program ensures that students in nonpublic schools have equal access to appropriate health care services. This state-mandated program requires public school districts to provide nursing services to nonpublic school students within their district boundaries. A registered nurse licensed by the New Jersey State Board of Nursing must provide all services. More info: https://www.nj.gov/education/nonpublic/state/health/index.shtml
Public school districts must provide the following basic nursing services to nonpublic school students:
Assistance with medical examinations, including dental screening
Hearing screening examinations
Maintenance of student health records
Immunization record verification and reporting
Scoliosis examinations for students between ages 10-18
Emergency care for students who are injured or become ill at school or during participation in school activities
Funding is calculated based on the number of full-time students enrolled in the nonpublic school
The per-pupil support limit adjusts annually based on the consumer price index
Districts may allocate up to 6% of funds for administrative costs
Districts must submit detailed expenditure and service reports
Nonpublic schools may decline services, and individual students may opt out except for examinations for communicable diseases
