Taking on this project through Student Life and Leadership, has helped me gain the confidence to know that I am capable of learning anything and carrying out a plan. I really wasn't sure how I was going to attract students to the Reflection and Prayer Room. I am pleased with my work and value the learning experience.
St. Mary's Food Distribution
My specific part in helping to coordinate the monthly St. Mary’s Food Distribution was marketing and coordinating the volunteers. My role also included: creating and managing the monthly sign-ups, communicating with volunteers, photographing the event, digital marketing in Daily Growl for staff and faculty, create day of signage.
Postings
There are so many things that I like about my job in Student Life and one of them is Marketing. Our office puts on and promotes quite a few events and activities throughout the year, as well as clubs on campus. Each student worker creates marketing and we are responsible for posting areas. It was a daily event to be sure that all of the flyers were presentable and current.
This part of my job kept me on my toes, we have to be aware of what events were active and those that had past already. This has prepared me for clinical research coordination as I will need to keep track of dates, changes in protocols and patient visits.
Event Coordiation
One of the first events that I was asked to create a flyer for was an Open House for the Puma Empowerment Center. I didn’t even know what it was. During the year, I learned that we needed to promote the Puma Empowerment Center, because like myself, our students were not aware that it exists.
The next event I participated in, I was asked to coordinate it with my co worker. It was a hit! Students and faculty showed up! A few things happened as a result of this we created a "Resume Drop" for the Career Center and they loved it and will continue to use it. We also added a "LInked-In Drop" as well.
Puma Empowerment Center
TheThe Puma Pantry maintains 5 little pantries on campus; Student Life workers fill them weekly for students looking for a quick snack throughout the day. Students with greater needs, can request a pantry bag of food. Each Student Life worker fills these orders as they come in.
As I mentioned above, many students are not aware of the Puma Empowerment Center. I decided to create marketing to introduce the Puma Empowerment Center to students.
I hope this need arises in my future job, because it felt natural to try to get in the heads of eveyone else to attract them to this service.
