3D Ceramics Gallery

3D Ceramics Gallery At PVCC.

The Technical Director of the Center for the Performing Arts (CPA), Ryan Wentzel, in collaboration with David Bradley, Professor of Art at Paradise Valley Community College (PVCC), are currently testing their hand at photogrammetry and 3D Scanning.  Photogrammetry is the use of photography in surveying and mapping to measure distances between objects.  Using multiple cameras and an old Xbox One Kinect, The team is able to use scan mapping and hundreds of high-resolution 2D photos of an object,  to assemble a mesh and re-create photo-realistic 3D models.

The team is trying to create a virtual "Art" gallery in a 3D environment where people can view art pieces and move through a virtual space to supplement the inability to visit a gallery during this time of social distancing.  Additionally, use this 3D gallery to help professors and students easily view and manipulate the 3D scanned models of the artwork to help aid in-class lectures where they may not have the ability to view the art pieces in person. Though this project is still in the beginning stages of development the testing scans and photo shoots have yielded promising results.
