Rules

The Gerry Murphy Memorial Tournament follows BNL Provincial Tournament Rules, with the following exceptions:

• 3 run rule at all divisions

• Games will be 6 innings. Rules for what is considered a complete game are indicated in the BNL manual.

• No new inning to start after 1h 45 minutes

• Mercy rule of a 10 run lead is in effect after 4 innings. 

• Once an open inning begins, it will play out. There is no hard stop or reverting to previous inning scores.

Notes:

• Pitching and fielding changes must be made at the scoring table.

• This is a pitch count tournament - PMB will provide a document indicating pitcher availability. Consult the BNL Manual for pitch count rules at each division. Coaches should confirm pitch counts with our scoring table each inning. 

• As this is a four day tournament, coaches should familiarize themselves with the Baseball Canada 4 day tournament pitch count rules. 

• The scoring table will have the official pitch count if there are any discrepancies between the official pitch counter and coach pitch count. 

• Players competing up an age division must throw from the distance relevant to that division, however, pitchers are subject to their own age limitations for pitch count.

The Gerry Murphy Memorial Tournament is designed to provide teams with a fun, competitive, and meaningful opportunity to prepare for Provincial Championships. While we encourage teams to compete at their highest level, the tournament is built on the values that define Paradise Minor Baseball—respect, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

We ask all players, coaches, parents, and spectators to remember that this event is about player development, team growth, and fostering a positive baseball experience. Winning is exciting, but demonstrating respect for opponents, officials, teammates, and the game itself is what truly makes this tournament a success.

Coaches are ultimately responsible for the conduct and sportsmanlike behaviour of their teams throughout the tournament. Paradise Minor Baseball has a zero-tolerance policy for the abuse of officials or for any unsportsmanlike behaviour, including taunting, disrespectful language, or inappropriate conduct directed toward opposing players, coaches, spectators, or tournament officials. Players and/or coaches on the field, as well as spectators found to be engaging in unsportsmanlike behaviour will be asked to leave the park. 

Our umpires are an essential part of the game, and many are young officials who have stepped forward to make it possible for these athletes to take the field. They deserve the same respect as every participant in the tournament. We ask everyone to support and encourage our officials by treating them with courtesy and respect at all times.
