On June 3, 2020, the new state Visual and Performing Arts standards were adopted. The NJSLS-VPA reflect the National Core Arts Standards and emphasize the process-oriented nature of the arts and arts learning. In anticipation of the release of these new standards, the Perth Amboy Visual and Performing Arts department used the National Arts standards as a guide to help revise and update our current VPA curriculum K-12.
Therefore, lesson plans must reflect the new state Visual & Performing Arts standards. Please click on the link below to access the standards:

In addition, the state adopted a Social/Emotional Learning & Arts Education Framework.

The framework is designed to show the intersection between arts education and social-emotional learning to allow for the intentional application of appropriate teaching and learning strategies. More information will be coming later in the school year.

The Perth Amboy Visual and Performing Arts Department has put together the following document to create a handbook of resources and content from various national and state organizations and tailoring them to the needs and conditions of our district. The sections in the handbook below were born out of the Arts ED NJ “September Ready - Fall 2020 Guidance for Arts Education” report. This handbook will be updated throughout the 2020-2021 school year to reflect the most current learning environment.
