During Remote Instruction
Google Classroom is your home base for your assignments. Everything is posted there, even if you have to go to another platform (like ALEKS) to actually do it.
You are expected to turn in your work on time, and penalties may apply if you don't:
If you do something late, just turn it in on google classroom, and be patient. I try to grade not-very-late work within a week or two, but if you turn something in very late, I may not grade it until the end of the marking period.
If you don't complete an assignment on quizizz before it's due, you will receive a 0 and the assignment will be locked out. You cannot make it up, and I can't re-open it. I drop the lowest #WordWednesday score each marking period, so it's OK if you miss one of them.
If you don't submit something on GClass on time, I'll put "m" as your score. This means "missing". Infinite Campus will count it as a 0. Do it, and I will replace your grade, although you may not get full credit (depending on the assignment).
ALEKS
ALEKS now has an option for late submissions with late penalties. If the assignment has a penalty on it, it will apply after 11:59 pm on the due date. If you don't complete an ALEKS assignment when it's due, you will get a 0. Do it, and I will replace your grade, if it's set for late submission (most will be; I'll let you know if it's not going to be).
ALEKS objectives cannot be completed after 11:59 pm on the due date.
Quizizz won't work after 11:45 pm on the due date. TAKE NOTE: Quizizz ends 15 minutes before midnight, because it operates on 15 min increments. Once it locks, that's it. No more chances.
If a google form has a manually scored question, I won't always go in and look at it after I grade it the first time. I might decide to, so try it, but if I don't, consider it a late penalty. Do your work on time!!!!!
If it's something weird that doesn't have autoscoring (like a google slides assignment or a project) it'll have it's own rules. I'll try to include them in the assignment instructions; if I miss something, let me know.
You can do some of your work early!
I'm trying to post your assignments as far ahead of time as possible. If it's posted on google classroom, you can (theoretically) do it, but you might need to do something else first.
ALEKS has a prerequisite feature. This means that some assignments won't unlock until you do other ones, like you can't take the test until you have at least a 50% on the review.
You should be doing schoolwork every day - unless you're super sick! If you're really sick and not able to do work, let me know RIGHT AWAY and we'll sort it out.
Your work is posted on google classroom; if you get behind, go on Gclass and do everything marked "missing"
Each MP (Marking Period) counts for 20% of your year grade. Your midterm and final exams each count for 10%.
If I say something counts as a test/quiz/assessment grade, I almost always end up counting it.
ALEKS - Weighted to count as one point per topic. Usually about 50 points per chapter.
Tests - 100 points.
Quizzes - Weighted to count as 10 points. Usually short quizzes given on ALEKS, but some may use other means.
Projects - Depends on the project. May count as a test, may count as a quiz, may be somewhere between.
ALEKS pie goal - 100 points (like a test). You must have a certain portion of your pie complete at the end of each marking period.
I don't count everything, but you won't know until after it's due whether it counts or not. You're supposed to be doing all of your work.
Worksheets / Google Forms / etc. - usually out of 5 points. Some assignments are scored out of more points and then weighted in the gradebook to make them worth close to 5 points. These are your main assignments for any given class period. Google forms are usually scored for correctness, although some questions within them may be scored for effort. You may correct and resubmit your google forms if you're not happy with your score, although if you resubmit it late, some questions may not be re-scored (see late work rules).
Class Participation (out of 5 points) - Based on my observations during class. I do this whatever days I chose to, and it won't always be the same days in different classes of mine. I will not warn you that I'm counting the day.
DN / ET /QC a.k.a. Do Nows / Exit Tickets / Quick Checks (usually 2-3 points) - Short assignments, usually to check for understanding and attentiveness during class. Some may be open for late submission, and some may not be. Some may be credit for effort, some may be for correctness. For example, one day I may ask a simple question to make sure you're paying attention, and grade it for correctness. Another day, I might ask a question about a new concept and grade it for effort because I know it's hard and many of you might not understand it yet.
#WordWednesday Vocabulary on Quizizz - You will have approximately 1 week to complete each vocabulary exercise before they are locked. They will be due at 11:45 PM every Wednesday. I drop your lowest one each marking period.
The name in Infinite Campus matches the name in Google Classroom. If you are missing an assignment in IC, you can search for it by name in GC.
DN means a Do Now
ET means an Exit Ticket
QC means a Quick Check
WS means Worksheet (anything that is a worksheet is turned in on paper. You can mark the google assignment as "turned in" because I will grade it directly on infinite campus)
9.1 means Chapter 9, section 1 in the textbook (accessible through IDPortal)
Your tests and quizzes are almost all on ALEKS.
You have 3 chances, with quick retakes. That means that if you answer a question correctly, you won't have to do it again when you retake it.
For tests: you must complete at least 50% of the review before the test is unlocked. For CP: The review counts for an extra credit quiz grade. For Honors: The review counts for an optional quiz grade out of 75% (so if you do 100% of the review, you get 100/75, which is some extra credit)
All bags are placed in the back or side of the room
All cell phones and peripheral devices (smart watches, headphones, etc) must be handed in to the teacher. Make sure your phones are off or on full-silent (not just vibrate).
Desks must be in neat rows and columns. In classrooms with two-student tables, dividers must be put up between you and the student next to you.
You should have a pencil, calculator, and your chromebook at your desk, nothing else. I will give you scrap paper / formula sheets / etc. after everyone is ready to get started.

You will get a 5-point quiz grade for following procedures during safety drills.
If there's a fire/evacuation drill during our class, you must STAY TOGETHER!!! I take attendance outside, and again when we get back into class. If you're not with the class when I take attendance, you'll get a 0 for the quiz. (if you're absent, you will be excused from the "quiz")
Note: I have bright red, waist-length hair. I am easy to find. It's YOUR responsibility to stay with the class or otherwise find me outside.
If there's a lockdown, you must stay QUIET. Turn off / close anything that glows (e.g. chromebooks, projector), and close the blinds. I will make sure the door is locked and turn out the lights. Get in the corner most sheltered from the door, and STAY SILENT. Your quiz grade will be based on how quickly we get the room locked down and how quiet you are.
If there's a shelter-in-place, you may not leave the room. Instruction continues as normal, even if the period (or school day) ends. You're just not allowed to leave for any reason (even to go to the bathroom - sorry!). Your quiz grade is based on your cooperation.
Assessments can take many forms. Tests will usually be partly on ALEKS and partly on paper.
Quizzes may be given in a variety of platforms, I use ALEKS the most, but sometimes I use Quizziz, nearpod, and other things.
Depending on the assignment, sometimes I allow you to re-try them, sometimes I won't.
Most of your quizzes will be given on ALEKS. You will be allowed one retake, which you generally must complete in the learning center. After you retake it, you must LET ME KNOW!!! If you're doing it with me, I'll change your grade right away. If you do it with another teacher, you have to email me. I will NOT help during the actual assessment; make sure you go over the report and ask questions BEFORE YOU START!!!
ALEKS Objectives
Objectives are due shortly after we should have finished the relevant material. Once the objective closes, you cannot make up the grade, even if you do topics from that objective later. Make sure you get your ALEKS topics completed on time!!!
Only the goal topics count (the ones with a little gemstone). If you do all of your topics, you will not have many prerequisite skills that don't count. If you skip topics, they will often be required later to unlock goal topics, so get them done on time!!! The number of goal topics will vary per week; it is based on how many topics are relevant to our current material.
Objective topics CANNOT BE MADE UP, for any reason. The software doesn't allow me to selectively give extensions.
Objectives count as a quiz grade, weighted by how many topics were in the goal, e.g. an 18 topic goal is an 18-point quiz.
You may occasionally have some class time to work on ALEKS topics, but you are expected to complete most of them outside of class.
ALEKS Pie Goals
Pie Goals are due twice a marking period, just before progress reports and marking period grades.
Pie Goals each count as half of a test grade.
Pie Goals count any topic you do in the pie, so you get credit if you gain old or new topics from knowledge checks, or do old topics as prerequisite skills :)
The target goal is roughly equivalent to how many topics you should have done for your objectives by that point, so if you keep up with your objectives, you'll be fine for your pie goals.
