In this term we are going to learn how to discuss our daily lives by breaking it down in to two key parts:
'Mi tiempo libre' - My free time
'Mi insti' - My school
The infinitive is the form of the verb you find in the dictionary or word list. It often translates as 'to do something'.
Escuhar (verb) to listen
In Spanish, all infinitives end in -ar, -er or -ir.
How many of each group can you find in Exercise 1 (Pagina treinta y dos)
When me gusta is followed by another verb, that verb must be in the infinitive.
e.g. Me gusta escuhar música. (I like to listen/listening to music)
There are three types of verbs: -ar, -er, and -ir. The biggest group is -ar verbs. Once you know the pattern you can apply the rules to new -ar verbs. Here we can see an example below with the verb - hablar (to speak)
(yo) hablo I speak
(tú) hablas you speak
(él/ella) habla he/she speaks
(nosotros) hablamos we speak
(ellos) hablan they speak

To take part in a longer conversation you need to know your question words. These are the question words you know already:
¿Qué...? What / Which... ?
¿Cuándo... ? When... ?
¿Donde... ? Where... ?
¿Cómo... ? How / What... ?
¿Cuántos... ? How many... ?
Questions in Spanish always begin with an upside-down question mark ¿...
A cognate is spelt the same in English as in Spanish. Most of the time they mean exactly the same too, for example: piano -> piano
In Spanish there are also lots of words that look similar to English words but are not identical There words are called near-cognates. They often have exactly the same meaning as the English (but not always!): música -> music
However some words look identical (or near identical) to English words but have different meanings. There are often called false friends. For example, the Spanish word Once, pronounced "on-say", and means Eleven.
In mi insti we will be examining the our school lives and learning about the different subjects we learn and how to talk about our school.
In this section there are a wide range of cognates and near-cognates, so look out for their guidance but beware of false-friends so always check with your maestro if you're unsure.
Los lunes estudio geografía e inglés.
Los martes estudio informatática, teatro y también matemáticas.
Los miércoles estudio francés, música y educación física.
Los jueves estudio español, tecnología e historia.

singular
Me gusta el español.
I like Spanish. (Literally - Spanish pleases me)
plural

I like sciences. (Literally - Sciences pleases me)
When you give your opinion about subjects, you need to four things:
that you use the correct form of gustar: me gusta / me gustan
that you use the correct definite article: el/la/los/las
that you use the correct form of the verb ser: es/son
that your adjectives agree in number and gender: aburrido/aburrida/aburridos/aburridas
