Q: My Chromebook won't turn on! What do I do???

A: Plug in your Chromebook. Press and hold the refresh button, then press the power key. Sometimes you will need to press the power key more than once!

Q: I'm trying to access my teacher's Google Meet, but I am being told that I do not have permission or that my access has been denied?

A: To access a Google Meet link, you must be logged into a Palmyra Schools Google Account. If you are logged into the browser with a personal email address, you will not have permission to join the video chat session. This is an important security feature that prevents strangers from accessing your child's virtual classroom.

To gain access to the meeting:

-Open Google Chrome

-Click your icon. This is a colorful circle with a letter in it located in the top right corner of the browser. My circle is purple and the letter inside is a "K" because that is the first letter of my email address (khagmann@palmyra.k12.nj.us). A box should pop out. This box should have your icon, your name, and the email address that is currently in use. The current email address MUST say YOURNAME@palmyra.k12.nj.us. If the email ends in @gmail.com or any other domain, you must LOG OUT by selecting "sign out of all accounts."

*Please note that the PRIMARY account MUST end in @palmyra.k12.nj.us. Adding another user will not give you permission to access the Meeting!

-After you have signed out, you may now sign back in with your YOURNAME@palmyra.k12.nj.us email address. If you do not know your login credentials, please contact your classroom teacher.

Q: How do I join a new Google Classroom?

A: To join a Google Classroom, please follow these steps

-Open a new tab

-Check that you are logged in using the correct account by clicking on your icon (the colorful circle with a letter inside). You will know that you are logged into the correct account if the email address ends in @palmyra.k12.nj.us. If your email address ends in @gmail.com or any other domain, please sign out of all accounts and login again using your @palmyra.k12.nj.us email address. If you do not know your login credentials, please contact your classroom teacher.

-Click on the menu button. This is the button directly to the left of your icon. It is a 3x3 grid and looks a little like a waffle.

-Scroll down until you find "Google Classroom." The icon looks like a chalkboard. Select this icon.

-Find the "+" in the top right and select "join a class"

-Enter the code that was provided to you by your classroom teacher.

Q: How do i attach a Google Doc when submitting an assignment in OnCourse?

A: Follow these steps:

-Log into OnCourse

-Enter your class

-Select the assignment for which you have created a Google Docs (Please note, you can upload any Google file, including those from sheets, slides, etc)

-Select the Google Drive icon

-Select the Doc that you would like to submit

-Scroll down and click "turn in"

Q: How do I submit a picture as an assignment in OnCourse?

A: Follow these steps:

-Log into OnCourse

-Enter your class

-Select the assignment for which you have taken a picture

-Select the file icon

-Use the pop-up window to select the file on your device

-Scroll down and click "turn in"

Q: I can see and hear my teacher on Google Meet, but they cannot see or hear me! How do I fix it!?

A: Follow these troubleshooting steps:

-Make sure that the camera and the microphone buttons are "on" (they should be white--not filled in! If they are red or if they have a red exclamation point, you have a problem!)

-Click into the "3-dot menu" --> Settings --> check to make sure that the default microphone and camera have been selected

-Make sure that you have "allowed access" for Google Meet by clicking on the camera located in the address bar (next to the star for Bookmarks)

Q: On Zoom, the teacher cant hear me/I can't hear the teacher! How do I fix it!?

A: Follow these troubleshooting steps

-Find the microphone icon in the bottom left corner of the screen. Make sure that it is not crossed out (if it is, click on the microphone)

-Click on the "^" up arrow next to the microphone to pull up the microphone and audio settings. Make sure that that the default microphone and speaker have been selected.

-Find the speaker button located near the date and time in the bottom right corner of the screen. Make sure that the default speaker is connected.

Q: My teacher is too small on Google Meet and I can't read what they are writing on the board. Is there any way to make them bigger?

A: You can "pin" the teacher's box so that it is the biggest on the screen. Mouse over your teacher's box and click on the push-pin icon.
