Here at Palm Springs Middle School, students have the option to choose string orchestra as an elective. The string orchestra is composed of four different string instruments in which students have the opportunity to learn:
Violin- Highest of the string family.
Viola - Slightly larger than violin; has a lower, sonorous sound
Cello - Large, low sounding instrument played with an end pin on the floor
String Bass- The lowest and largest of the string family
Palm Spring's orchestra program contains 3 different elective classes and also and after school elite small group. The classes students have the opportunity to participate in are as follows:
Beginning Orchestra- Orchestra for beginner instrumentalists.
Advanced Orchestra- Intermediate orchestra
Philharmonic - Performance orchestra which participates in outside performances and concert MPAs.
Chamber Orchestra - A small group of elite players used for recruitment performances and competitions. This group meets 1 day after school.
