This course is for students who have completed the Adult ESOL course or who score 236 or above on the CASAS Reading Test and 228 or above on the Listening test.
It is ideal for the student who has a goal of going on to post-secondary education
While the academic rigor of this course is above the ESOL level 6, CASAS testing is not mandated by the state. Student progress is measured by mastery of the FDOE competencies on a checklist. Teachers of this level can use formative assessments for ongoing monitoring of learning and to determine when a student has attained mastery and is ready to exit the course. Students may take as long as needed to demonstrate mastery and complete the course, but only 1 LCP can be earned.
Course exit is recorded on a "Progress Report Certification", which is submitted as proof for earning the one LCP upon course completion.
Once this Progress Report is completed the student must exit the course.

There is a lot of room for creativity for the teacher of this course as long as the skills outlined on the checklist/competency are being taught and there is sufficient rigor to help students attain critical thinking, digital literacy and employability skills.
Students should be provided with the opportunity to synthesize information from different sources.
Below are some recommendations to get you started.
