This class has TWO components on which you will be assessed.
Component 1: Foundation Portfolio
Candidates produce a media product – a magazine – then present evidence of the process (research, planning and production) on an online blog.
Candidates reflect on the finished media product in a creative digital format, answering a series of questions.
*All work involved in creating the portfolio (process, finished product and creative critical reflection) is put online for moderation purposes.
Component 2: Key Media Concepts
This is a written component which covers two areas (assessment in June):
Section A: Textual analysis and representation
Candidates analyze a moving image (like a clip from a television show) in terms of technical codes and representations, in particular sound, editing, camera work and mise-en-scene.
Section B: Institutions and audiences
Candidates study a specific media industry from a choice of: film, music, print, radio or video games.
AICE will assess BOTH components for your AICE grade. A grade of A, B, C, D, E or U (ungraded) will be assessed, and you will be notified next August of your performance. (A grade of E is equivalent to a grade of C in American grading.)
You will also be graded in this course in a Palm Beach County School District conventional manner: A, B, C, D, F. You will be awarded a weighted GPA of 6.0 only if you complete BOTH components with integrity and quality.
Your grade in my class and the externally-awarded AICE grade do not influence each other directly.
Candidates are assessed on their ability to:
AO1: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of media concepts, contexts and critical debates, using terminology appropriately.
AO2: Apply knowledge and understanding to show how meanings are created when analysing media products and when evaluating their own practical work.
AO3: Plan and construct media products using appropriate technical and creative skills.
AO4: Undertake and apply appropriate research
