18001: Introduction to Agriculture
The Introduction to Agriculture course surveys a wide array of topics within the agricultural industry, exposing students to the many and varied types of agriculture and career opportunities and those in related fields. These courses serve to introduce students to the agricultural field, providing them an opportunity to identify an area for continued study. This course will focus on developing communication skills, scientific research, types of business ownership, business principles, and leadership skills.
18052: Horticulture
The Horticulture course will expose students to the art and science of growing plants, shrubs, trees, flowers, fruits, and vegetables. In doing so, they cover a wide variety of topics, including principles of plant science, greenhouse and nursery operations, soils and growing media mixtures, fruit and vegetable production, interior and exterior plantscaping, irrigation systems, weed and pest control, and floral design.
18053: Floriculture
The Floriculture course will provide information regarding the care and propagation of plants, flowers, trees, and shrubs, but place a special emphasis on those plants that are used for decorative and aesthetic purposes. With this particular emphasis, the Floriculture course will concentrate on nurseries and greenhouses and on the floristry industry.
18102: Small Animal Science
The Small Animal Science course will focus on the care and management of small animals (i.e. dogs, cats, rabbits, exotics, and pocket pets). Animal nutrition, health, behavior, reproduction and breeding, anatomy, use of qualitative and quantitative analyses for decision making, facilities, and handling will be areas of study.
18103: Large Animal Science
The Large Animal Science course will focus on the care and management of large animals (i.e. horses, cattle, pigs, goats, sheep, and camelids). Animal nutrition, health, behavior, reproduction and breeding, anatomy, use of qualitative and quantitative analyses for decision making, facilities, product processing, marketing, and handling will be areas of study.

Hi, I’m Ms. Semans, Agriculture Teacher and FFA Advisor at Palmyra-Macedon Central School District. I’m passionate about connecting students with hands-on agricultural experiences that prepare them for life beyond the classroom! Through courses in Horticulture, Floriculture, Small Animal Science, Large Animal Science, and Introduction to Agriculture, I aim to inspire curiosity, leadership, and a strong work ethic. As an FFA alum and advocate for agricultural education, I believe in building community partnerships that help our students learn, grow, and contribute in the Agricultural Industry and in society.
