All students in grades K-12 are provided with a Chromebook (including a carrying case and charger) for use to do school work at no cost to parents. An optional annual fee* will be available to cover accidental damage, theft, and vandalism for up to three incidents of damage.
Because of the depreciated value of elementary student Chromebooks, we will only be offering this plan to Middle and High School students as their devices are valued at a total cost of $250. Elementary student device damage will be repaired at no cost.
The device will remain the property of the school district and will be required to be returned at the end of your student's career in Palisades
All use of District owned equipment is subject to the Palisades School District Acceptable Internet and Electronic Technology Use Policy which can be found by clicking here.
Palisades will provide an accidental damage plan to cover your child's Chromebook in the event it becomes damaged. The plan will provide for up to three incidents of damage. After the three incidents, an invoice will be sent for the cost of the parts to repair the device. This plan is completely at your discretion if you wish to purchase it or not. Please be aware that if you choose not to purchase an accidental damage protection plan, the district will invoice for damage to the device just as we would for any damage to district property. The invoice is for the cost of the parts to repair the device plus a $25 labor fee so the minimum cost for any repair will be greater than the $30 per year accidental damage plan cost.
The plan provided through Palisades School District covers the following:
Accidental Damage
Cracked Screen
Liquid Submersion
Fire
Flood
Theft (principal verification or a police report is required)
Vandalism by someone other than the student assigned to the device (principal verification is required) *
Note: chargers are not covered by this policy
To sign up online for Chromebook accidental damage protection plan please go here and fill out a separate form for each student you wish to purchase the plan for, and we will send an invoice which will provide you with payment options.
The optional technology fee and repair costs will be waived for students whose family is in an economically disadvantaged situation. The District may assess a charge if the device is obviously damaged due to negligence or if accidental damage becomes chronic. For families to qualify for this waiver they must sign the Affidavit: Economically Disadvantaged form which is available from the guidance counselor at your child's school or below. This waiver must be renewed annually and must be turned in to your child's guidance counselor.
*Note - Purposeful vandalism by the student assigned to the device will not be covered under this policy
