Palisades School District
Welcome to the Palisades School District One to One (1:1) Program website. Our goal is for every student in grades 4-12 to have access to a computer throughout the school day and for students in grades 6-12 to have the option of bringing the device home by Fall, 2017. This initiative is known as a 1:1 program - one device for every student.
Within this site you will find information about:
- our 1:1 program, including the annual optional student technology fee
- recommended devices, if you choose to purchase one for your child to use at school in addition to their district assigned Chromebook
- available options for families without access to the Internet at home
- low or no cost software options available
- answers to frequently asked questions
about the program
Starting in the Fall of the 2017-18 school year, students in grades 6-12 will have the option to borrow a Chromebook from the District to be used both in and outside of school. Students in grades 4 and 5 will have a Chromebook available to them while in school, but will not be permitted to take the Chromebook home. Click on The 1:1 Program menu above to learn more about the details of this initiative.
We have chosen a Chromebook as the device used for the 1:1 program, and you can read more about the reasons why on the Types of Devices page of this website. Chromebooks allow for easy access to the Google ecosystem, as well as the many other resources available over the Internet for use in the classroom and at home.
Within the borders of Palisades School District there are several Internet access options available; some you may not even be aware of. We've also created an option for those with a financial need and can't afford Internet access at home. Please check the Internet Access page for more information.
One of the nice options about Google's G Suite for Education and Chromebooks is that a lot of the software is free to use. Software for writing papers, creating spreadsheets, and also creating presentations is all cost free. You can see some of these free options as well as options available at an educational discount on the software page of this site.
