In this workshop, we will explore the world of palynology through the discipline of identifying pollen in the microscope. The course is suitable for students from Biology, Archaeology and Quaternary Sciences.
During the 2-day course, the students will gain an introduction to palynology and its applications on different fields. This will be done through lectures and hands-on tutorials working with different samples in the laboratories at Geoscience, Aarhus University. We will visually analyse samples from archaeological soils, deposits, and artefacts. We will focus on experiences behind the microscope and the participants will be trained in basic palynomorph recognition skills. Besides a general introduction to the discipline, we will also discuss the potential of palynology to contribute to our knowledge about the past.
The hands-on palynology tutorials will take place on the 1st and 2nd of February 2024 from 9.00 to 16.00. Limited to 15 participants: the application is now closed.
The course is led by Renée Enevold PhD, Cand. Scient, Moesgaard Museum.
