Week 5
Next week will be week 6. That is the time we begin assessments. These assignments are on new learning and continued learning. They will be on going throughout the rest of kindergarten. Next week's assessments will be on phonograms; sounds and written, shape names, beginning sounds, and number recognition 1-10. The poem, Diddle, Diddle Dumpling, will be practice, but not entered into the grade book. When practicing the poem, students should start with a greeting of; "Good morning" or "Hello". Next, say their name. Then, say the title of the poem. Finally, recite the poem. The goal is to include every word, keep the original sentence structure to maintain the rhyme, and have clear pronunciation. This is something that may take time and practice as the year progresses.
Thanks for your support t home!

WEEK 10
Dear Parents,
I am attaching a video link of all the 26 phonograms, letters a-z that we will be assessing this week.
Attached is the link for a video to practice. Please make your child practice the phonograms from a-z orally and written . Once they get the first 26 phonograms it will be much easier for students to understand the concept of multi letter phonograms. Which starts next week, Quarter 2.

Thank you for practicing phonograms, letter names and sounds, and sounding out 3-4 letter words each night to help enhance your student’s language skills. When reading with your child you can work on our skills of rhyming and vocabulary development by asking question, for example: " Where there any words on this page that rhyme? Do you understand all the words?".We will also be writing, composing, and decomposing numbers 1-20 for the next several weeks. Students should have one to one correspondence for numbers 1-10 and we are slowly moving on to teen numbers. This week we will be assessing students on phonograms both orally and written. We will also be practicing rule 4 (she, me, the) and rule 17 (bell, off, less) spelling words. This practice will help students to learn how to apply the rules in the words.

Above is the video to help you practice with your student each night. We have now started testing written phonograms so students should be practicing saying sounds out loud each night and writing them with their BEST handwriting. This means students need to be practicing saying JUST BEFORE they write, and write using the midpoint and baseline to help guide the size and shape of their letters.
Now that we are testing both written numbers and letters we will soon be marking off for illegible or backwards handwriting. Please make sure students are practicing the correct way when completing homework pages or practice pages!
PICTURE DAY is THIS Wednesday, October 26th. Students need to be in uniforms for the pictures.
SOCK-TOE-BER is concluding at the end of this week. THANK YOU all who have donated. Please keep your donations coming this week. 😊 We will have our last Fun Sock Friday at the end of this week.
WEEK 14
This week there is no school on November 11th .
The ten focus phonograms that will be assessed orally and written for week 14 are;
u, v, w, ee, s, th, z, c, ai (cue: not used), and ay
Practice phonograms by sounding out while writing on the practice sheets provided in this week’s packet. Some days have rules to trace and rewrite certain words.
We have been discussing the following:
*English words don’t end in i – usually 😉 This is why we are currently giving and asking for cues such as used or not used.
* Rule 4 – The vowels a ,e, o, and u usually say ā, ē, ō, and ū at the end of a syllable (vowels usually say their names at the end of a syllable)
*Rule 17 -We often double l, f, and s following a short vowel sound at the end of a one-syllable word.
*Rule 19 - The vowels i and o may say i and o when followed by two consonants

I made a snowman round and fat.
I dressed him in a funny hat.
He sat out in the sun all day
And slowly melted all away.
He just grew thin and flat and small,
Until he wasn’t there at all.
But I can tell just where he sat
Because he didn’t take his hat.

I am attaching a video link of all the 26 phonograms, letters a-z, we will be assessing next week.
Please, have your child practice these phonograms orally and written . We also have 4 review phonograms (sh, ee, th, ar) that we are adding to the A-Z phonogram list. We want our students to practice, review, and gain mastery of the first 26 phonograms . These phonograms are the foundation, and mastery of these phonograms will help students understand and use multi-letter phonograms to read more than just CVC words.

Welcome back!!! Hope you all had a restful Spring break. Can’t believe that we are already in the 4th quarter. Since it is the 4th Qtr, we will be starting sentence dictation. Every week students will be given three sentences. They have to practice writing those sentences using the sentence structure rules; the first letter is capitalized, a (finger) space after every word, and ending the sentence with the correct punctuation. On Thursday, they will be having a pretest and on Friday there will be a final written assessment on those three sentences. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me and I will get back to you as soon as possible. Below is the video link for this week:
