Why Water Restrictions? The Hatcher Challenge
In Pagosa Springs, our water supply is a balancing act between nature, law, and geography. For most of the year, Lake Hatcher is filled by gravity-fed water from Fourmile Creek. However, because our community holds junior water rights, we can only collect water from mid-October through April. Once the "tap" is turned off in the spring, the lake must last through the high-demand summer months.
We use restrictions to protect our limited supply, maintain water quality, and keep costs manageable for everyone. Every gallon saved helps keep Lake Hatcher healthy and our utility rates stable.

If we don't limit our water usage, then we will not have enough water for the rest of Summer. Your water bill will rise overtime and if our water problem doesn't decrease, then our water will need more chemicals to go into the water as the water decreases, and algae increases.
As algae grows on top of the water, the more chemicals and water we are wasting. The more chemicals there are in the water, then the more the water will taste funky.
