What is Career Education & Work?

Where do the Career Education and Work Standards come from?

22 PA Code 339.31 requires all school entities to have a written plan for the development and implementation of a comprehensive, sequential program of guidance services for Kindergarten through 12th grade. The plan must be designed to promote equal opportunity and address the guidance service areas outlined in 22 PA Code 339.32, including guidance services provided to AVTSs and implementation of CEW standards. The local board of school directors must approve the plan, and upon request make it available to the Secretary of Education.

The Career Education and Work Standards, Chapter 4 of Title 22, are part of the State Board of Education’s regulations of required education for all students in Pennsylvania. The Career Education and Work Standards address four areas of knowledge: Career Awareness and Preparation, Career Acquisition (Getting a Job), Career Retention and Advancement, & Entrepreneurship.
