Mrs Fidock's news update

It's beginning to feel a little festive...with nativity rehearsals, carols echoing around the school and a odd bit of glitter starting to creep into our daily lives. We know that for some families Christmas is going to be a struggle - so we would like to suggest the following ideas:

  • rather than giving individual Christmas cards to each child, perhaps just do one for the whole class - homemade is wonderful

  • you don't need to buy a new Christmas jumper - wear a favourite top and add some tinsel or home-made snowflakes

  • if you need a costume for the nativity - either make a homemade one - or speak to school staff if you are finding it tricky

We want you and your family to enjoy Christmas and don't want to add any pressure - if we can help in any other way, please let us know.

It's been lovely to have more visitors in this week. They've all commented on how engaged the children are with their learning and how articulate they are when explaining what they understand and about the school. We really are proud of how well they represent Paddock Wood and conduct themselves at any event or trip/visit.

This week we are really proud of...

Bertie 3BE

Bertie is fascinated with history and loves to go Mudlarking in London. This is where you can find historic things from the last 2000 years on the foreshore of the Thames. He’s found some amazing things - two clay pipe bowls from around the year 1600, a Roman tile, and several pieces of a Tudor leather shoe. Bertie stores his finds in his mini museum, and wants to study history & archeology when he’s older. We are so proud of you Bertie and thank you for highlighting such an amazing hobby.

felicity 2t

In October Felicity was entered for an Annual Performance Award for dance, in which she achieved a Distinction. We are so proud of you Felicity - well done.

PWPA Swimming Team

Our swim team won the Leigh Academies Trust Swimming Gala. We competed against 14 other Primary Academies. The won gold in the freestyle relay and Kaelin and Darcy both won silver medals in their individual events. The team showed tenacity and resilience. Well done to them all - shown here with their trophy, already engraved!

Reading Tips and hints

Pearson Publishing recommend these tips and hints to help to encourage and enjoy Reading.

1. Make books a part of family life – Always have books around at home. That way you and your children are ready to get reading, even if it’s only for ten minutes.

2. Join your local library – Get your child a library card. They’ll be able to get their hands on hundreds of fantastic books, as well as the latest video games, blu-rays and DVDs. Let them choose what they want to read to help them develop their own interests.

3. Read about something they’re interested in – Help your child find the right book for them. It doesn't matter if it's fiction, poetry, comic books or non-fiction.

4. All reading is good – Don’t rule out non-fiction, comics, graphic novels, magazines or leaflets. Reading is reading and it’s all worthwhile.

5. Get comfortable! – Snuggle up together somewhere warm and cosy, whether it’s in bed, on a beanbag or on the sofa. And make sure your child has somewhere comfy to read on their own too.

6. Ask questions – To keep them interested in the story, ask your child questions as you read. Start with ‘Where did we get to last time?’, ‘Can you remember what’s happened so far?’ and 'What do you think will happen next?'.

7. Read whenever you get the chance – Have a book or magazine with you for any time your child has to wait, like at the doctor's or the dentist.

8. Read favourites again and again – Encourage your child to re-read the books and poems they love. Re-reading helps to build fluency and confidence.

9. Enjoy bedtime stories – Read with your kids at bedtime as often as you can. It’s a great way to end the day and to spend valuable time with them.

10. Make the most of rhyme and repetition – Books and poems with rhymes and repeated words or phrases are great for getting your kids to join in and remember the words.

Office Messages

Tips for Using MCAS - when logging in to your MCAS account it is advisable to use the App if you are using your phone. The web version works best on a PC.

Years 3 to 6 School Meals - Unfortunately we continue to have issues with meals not being paid for in advance. Whilst we have made allowances while MCAS was introduced we will now require all meals to be paid for in advance. This means your account must have a minimum credit of £2.40 if your child is having a meal. If payment is not received, parents will be contacted and asked to provide a packed lunch or make payment via MCAS by 11.30am. If you have any issues with using MCAS, or are having financial difficulties please contact the school office to discuss this further. Thank you for your co operation.
