What a difference a little bit of sunshine makes! It's been lovely to have the children back this week and falling straight into their routines and learning. Over the half-term we have had more work completed on the building including: new flooring in the KS1 corridor, library and in the Year 6 classrooms, we have also had a very smart new wall built to replace the wooden stakes - we will be planting this shortly too. We've also had confirmed that the KS1 and Year 3 toilets will be upgraded over the summer holidays - this is way overdue and we are very grateful that the Trust have been able to fund this project.
We have also been reviewing the parental survey responses and have put together a response...a 'you said, we will...' letter - so please look out for this when it's sent later today. A few key reminders:
All of our detailed Curriculum Maps are on our school website. This is broken down into each year groups, the key skills and knowledge taught and when this will be delivered. We have overview maps for each year group, but we will also send a hard copy home so you can have this to hand.
All of our policies are on our school website. These include; admissions, attendance, behaviour, anti-bullying, safeguarding etc.
A member of SLT is out every morning and afternoon - either on one of the gates or on one of the playgrounds, we are here to listen and help in any way we can. We also have the enquiries@ email where you can ask questions or request someone to call you back - which we will endeavour to do so, ASAP.
I hope you find our response reassuring that we are and do listen.

Could you be a Year Group Rep? This would involve 6 meetings a year, during school time with a member of SLT. It's an opportunity to come in and discuss:
things we can do to support families further
ideas of how we can improve
questions about school/year groups/future plans
You would represent the children and families in your year group, so you will need to also take ideas from other parents and feedback. This is a solution focused group and a positive forum. If you think you could be that person, please complete this google form to register your interest. Year Group Rep Interest Form
This week our focus is the International Baccalaureate. We are now an IB World School, a journey that has taken us 2 years. There are only 120 schools in the UK who are World Schools and we are proud to be one of them.
Here at Paddock Wood, we teach the National Curriculum, under the framework of the International Baccalaureate's Primary Years Programme (PYP). This framework enhances the National Curriculum and includes:
Approaches to learning e.g. research skills
Learner Profile Attributes e.g. principled, risk-taker
Concepts e.g. change, causation
We also talk about giving the children agency (voice, choice and ownership) and that they will take action (either as small as a change of opinion or as larger actions such as a peaceful protest).
A more detailed guide can be found here: What is the PYP? or if you would prefer to watch a video about it you can find one here.
Following the cake sale at the end of last term we have a couple of unclaimed cake tins in the office. If you donated cakes but have not yet had your tin back please pop in to collect it!
