Newsletter

Mr page's news update

The cold has not stopped us... yet! Please see the letter that was sent out earlier this week regarding any severe weather and our protocols. Also, please ensure that your child has appropriate winter clothing when in school.

We have had yet another busy and successful week. We invited our Academies Director into the school to celebrate and share all of the wonderful learning and opportunities that the children receive on a daily basis. As always, the children were extremely polite, positive about their learning and are proud to be a part of the school. Well done to all of the children who always show a willingness to learn and take enormous pride in their learning. We are organising some dates to invite parents into school to share this wonderful learning in the near future so keep an eye out on MCAS and future newsletters.

Keeping children safe

We also invited in Kent County Council to audit our safeguarding practice for the day on Wednesday. They were extremely impressed with the systems that are in place to keep every child safe and how safeguarding is a priority for all staff members. The children knew how they are kept safe and most importantly they all felt school was a safe place for them. There will be a full report and I look forward to being able to share this with parents.

The wellbeing of our pupils is paramount. We are planning to partake in Children's Mental Health Week (w.b. 05/02). Children will be given daily activities that promote the importance of mental health along with strategies for how to improve theirs. Interwoven into this will be how to keep children safe, especially when interacting with technology; 6th February is National Online Safety Day.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend. Stay warm!

attendance

Not sure if your child is well enough for school?  Check here:  https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/is-my-child-too-ill-for-school/

The link between attendance and attainment is clear:

• Nationally, in 2018/19, just 40% of persistently absent (PA) children in KS2 achieved expected KS2 standards, compared with 84% of pupils who were regular attenders.

But attendance is important for more than just attainment:

• Regular school attendance can facilitate positive peer relationships, which is a protective factor for mental health and wellbeing.

Our subject leaders will be sharing hints and tips to help you along the way and will be offering further ideas and resources that you might like to access at home. This week our focus is....

Bonjour Paddock Wood,

We were excited to hear from our partner school in France.

Last week, they celebrated the coming of ‘The Three Wise Men’ and baked cakes called Les Galette des Rois!  They have suggested that we might want to make some of our own and send them our photos.

The recipe attached can be altered depending on allergies and almonds may be replaced with chocolate. Please find a clear, english recipe here: https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/galette-des-rois

Alternatively, you might want to make your own Galette des Rois and crowns using recyclable materials or paper plates.

world thinking day

World Thinking Day is a celebration that has taken place on every 22nd February since 1926.

There has been a tradition of inviting children who are members of Girlguiding and Scouts to wear their uniform to school on this day.

If you attend Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, Beavers, Cubs or Scouts etc. you can wear your club uniform to school instead of your school uniform on 22nd February if you wish too.
