Mrs Fidock's news update

It's been lovely to see all the children dressed up for Halloween today and enjoying the fun and thank you to the PTA for our first post-Covid Disco, which the children have thoroughly enjoyed. This week the staff have been meeting with me for Pupil Progress Meetings to discuss your children in advance of parents evening. The resounding comments were just how resilient the children have been, how excited they are with their learning and I know that staff are looking forward to sharing information with you on Wednesday. Just one reminder...the system will automatically cut off after the allocated time, so please watch the clock carefully - the teachers can't control this!

Thank you to those parents that took the opportunity to come along to the Google Meet about Google Classroom and I know some of you have booked in with Charlotte Gunning. We will be offering further training this year in regards to lots of curriculum areas and will probably utilise Google Meet as well as in-person training. If you would like to watch the recording of the Google Meet please use this link.

We only have one week left until half-term, so don't forget to book up for the Fireworks (Sunday 7th November) and we will be sharing more ideas for half-term on next week's newsletter.

Children attending our after school pottery club have designed, made and painted these wonderful pots to take home. Thank you to Jette Kisendal for her expertise in running the club. There are more exciting projects to follow.

Cross Country Club Success!

Members of the Cross Country club took part in a competitive event at Somerhill School on Monday. 15 different schools took part in the event and each race had over 80 children competing. Our children worked hard to cross the finish line of a very hilly course and we even had two 4th place finishers- Alison (yr6) and Joshua (yr4). Well done to all of the children who took part.

Acting debut

We are very proud of Roshni for taking part in this important advertising campaign for the NSPCC. In such difficult times we must make sure that every child is supported.

Curriculum corner

Each week we want to give you ideas to enable you to support your child at home with a particular aspect of the curriculum. Our subject leaders will be sharing hints and tips to help you along the way and will be offering further ideas and resources that you might like to access at home. This week our focus is....Reading!

Global Digital Library

https://digitallibrary.io/

This library is free and shares books in 90 different languages, for everyone to enjoy.

This resource opens up the love of books to all children, no matter what their language and will allow us to offer a range of choices:

  • Do you speak another language at home? Perhaps enjoy a book in your native language.

  • Do you want to practise your French? Try to read one of the books in French and see if you can follow the story.

  • Do you have a friend or relative that speaks another language? Perhaps ask them to read you a story.

Phoenix dance #helloyellow

#HelloYellow

We definitely brightened up this Friday wearing yellow and raising awareness of young peoples mental health with YoungMinds. This is a topic I am very passionate about and what lead me to take my Mental Health Youth First Aider course. I have been on a journey with the Phoenix Dancers throughout this pandemic and many have been through struggles. Most just phases, but for some the struggle continues. These young people need love and support. They need to know THEY ARE NOT ALONE.

Phoenix is a great family and I’m proud to watch the kids support each other weekly in a space they feel safe and secure in. Especially at PWPA where the support continues throughout the Academy beyond dance.

Let’s keep the conversation going. Let’s show them that whatever they are going through they’re not alone.
