Mrs Fidock's news update

Welcome to our first weekly digital newsletter. I hope this will give you an insight into life at PWPA, celebrating learning so we can work together to offer our children the very best education. This template will continue to develop and I have already had some lovely ideas from parents for particular content, which I will try to include in the future. It has been a pleasure getting to know the children here and finding out about their learning to date. I was swamped on the playground by children wanting to introduce themselves and generally interested in how I was and what I'd done during half-term - so thank you for making me feel so welcome. Over the coming weeks, months and years I hope to instil in our children a wonder and curiosity about their world, ensuring they are confident to try new things, take risks in their learning and be ambitious for their future. This is just the start of the next step of our journey and I'm already excited about what this might mean for everyone involved.

Have a lovely weekend.

This week we have returned to Term 6 full of energy and ready to get on with our learning. Learning isn't just about what we do in the classroom, many of our pupils have demonstrated talents elsewhere. We have been really proud of …

It was quite an amazing surprise one evening, when I discovered I had won a scholarship to my dream school, Brentwood. I didn't know what to do; I was speechless.

The process for the application was to send a dance video, which I choreographed with my teacher. I was nervous and worried that it was unfinished, however it must have been! I have since met my new dance teacher via Zoom and have spoken to some other children who gained scholarships to find out about next year.

I was one of three children picked from 500 other pupils who had applied for a place. What made it more exciting was that I had been the only boy to achieve a place in 2021. In fact there are only three boys in the school to have a dance scholarship - what an achievement!

My football journey

I've always had a passion for football and had a chance to trial for the under 11’s Girls West Kent District Football Team. There were over 40 talented girls trialling to get into the squad, I was lucky enough to be selected. I have been playing for West Kent for just under 1 year and it has been an incredible experience. We entered 2 competitions and won the cup in both. Some of the teams in our league we played against throughout our season included: Orpington, Brighton ,Bexley, Dartford, Woking and Medway.

On Tuesday 8th June we went to our league match final and won 2-0 at Gallagher stadium (Maidstone), we played in front of a crowd of 300 spectators. I am honoured to be part of such a fantastic team playing alongside an incredible group of girls, from many different schools.

Well done Mr Blackhall too - for being our manager and coach.

Curriculum corner

Each week we want to give you ideas to enable you to support your child at home with a particular aspect of the curriculum. Our subject leaders will be sharing hints and tips to help you along the way and will be offering further ideas and resources that you might like to access at home. This week our focus is....Maths!

Did you know that you can use Lego for maths learning at home? You can use it for counting, addition, subtraction, tables and more! The link below gives you lots of ideas that you might like to try. We'd love to have photos of anything you might try!

Attendance

Can we please remind you that children should attend school everyday. We do understand that from time to time children do become unwell, but it's important that they return as soon as possible. Covid guidelines are clear, but in other circumstances the following guidelines should be followed:

Why we might have a day off: When we shouldn't be off:

Sickness / upset stomach (48 hours since the last bout) Feeling a bit unwell/sore throat

Emergency medical appointment Routine appointments to be made out of school hours please

It's my birthday - come and celebrate with your friends at school instead.

We will always phone you if your child is unwell, so please don't worry if you're not sure.

We will be looking to invite parents in for attendance meetings if we feel this is a current concern. This will be a chance to meet you and find out any potential barriers that we can remove in order that all children attend daily.

Uniform

Can we please request that all children attend in full-school uniform daily. Your child should still wear their PE kit to school on their PE day, but we please ask that the school PE kit is worn. We do understand that with Covid restrictions things have been relaxed, but it's now time to get back to our high expectations. If we look smart, we think smart.
