We said a sad goodbye and happy retirement to Miss Rabarts today - we wish her every happiness and hope that she'll come back and visit us sometime. It was also a goodbye and thank you to Mr Hill, Miss Shattock and Mrs Blake - all will be sorely missed, but we wish them every success.
While you are off for the next two weeks there will be plenty going on in school to get things mended and fixed and Mr Ingram (our Site Operative) will be busy - so when you come back, please do see what's changed or repaired, while we've enjoyed some relaxation. We also welcome our new staff after the break and they have been in during the last few weeks to get to know some of the children and their new classes, so please do say hello if you see them on the playground.
Ramadan starts on Saturday for our Muslim families and we wish them Ramadan Mubarak and for our Christian and Catholic families Easter will be celebrated at the end of the holiday, so Happy Easter.
So until Tuesday 19th April ~ have a safe and happy break and we look forward to seeing you all on our return.
This week we are really proud of...
Jack and Aoife decided that they wanted to clean up the local playground. They scrubbed off the graffiti and made everything look better. Well done to both of you for being so community minded - we are really proud of you.
Congratulations to Ms Osborne who is getting married during the Easter holidays. This has already been postponed twice, due to Covid. When she returns she will officially be Mrs Bottle. We wish her and her husband-to-be a wonderful day.
Congratulations to our Yr. 5/6 Hockey Team on their recent victory at the West Kent Schools Hockey Tournament held at Hawkenbury.
It was a fantastic performance with a thrilling 2-1 victory in the final where we played Claremont, who proved to be very worthy opponents. Well done to all involved.
Wonderful news and excellent team spirit.
Congratulations to the winners of the Paddock Wood chess tournament, the first stage of the nationwide UK Chess Challenge. There were some great performances with Jose finishing unbeaten as overall winner, just ahead of Kaelin (U10 winner). The joint U9 winners were Finlay and Harry, with Bertie as U8 winner. Special mention goes to Chloe and Lewis who shared the most improved prize for going from complete beginners to challenging at the top!
Thank you to the PTA for paying for the Chess Competition equipment - the club has been busy improving their strategies and developing their game.
For completing their HLTA training and being awarded their certificates. It's been a lot of work, assignments and interviews - but they both performed brilliantly in their assessment and are now officially HLTAs. Congratulations!
Each week we want to give you ideas to enable you to support your child at home with a particular aspect of the curriculum. Our subject leaders will be sharing hints and tips to help you along the way and will be offering further ideas and resources that you might like to access at home. This week our focus is.... Food Technology
Ingredients:
Vegetable oil, for the tin
200g digestive biscuits
80g unsalted butter, melted
250g chocolate mini eggs or leftover Easter eggs(!)
400g full-fat soft cheese
150g icing sugar
1 tsp vanilla bean paste
400g double cream
Recipe:
STEP 1
Oil a 20cm deep springform cake tin and line with baking parchment. Tip the digestive biscuits into a food bag or the bowl of a food processor and crush or blitz to a fine crumb. Mix with the melted butter, then press into the base of the prepared cake tin and chill for 30 mins.
STEP 2
Roughly chop half the chocolate mini eggs. Beat the soft cheese with the icing sugar and vanilla until just combined using an electric whisk. Clean the beaters, then beat the double cream to stiff peaks in a separate bowl. Gently fold the whipped cream into the soft cheese mixture along with the chopped chocolate mini eggs. Spoon the cheesecake mixture over the biscuit base, then smooth the surface with a palette knife or spatula. Chill overnight.
STEP 3
The next day, carefully release the cheesecake from the tin (you may need to run a cutlery knife around the edge to loosen it) and top with the remaining whole chocolate mini eggs to decorate.
As you know Mrs Blake will be leaving us today. From Tuesday 19th April, Mrs Wakeford will be our new Office Manager - so please do bear with us while we get up to speed.

We continue to have a number of families reporting head lice, particularly in certain year groups. As there has been an outbreak, we suggest that you check your child’s head as soon as possible.
Here is some simple advice you may wish to follow to keep head lice outbreaks to a minimum.
Check your child’s hair once a week.
Use a proper detection comb – with teeth no more than 0.3mm apart to trap head lice. The comb is usually white in colour so that lice can be easily identified.
If you find live lice, consult a pharmacist to check the whole family.
Treat your child's hair immediately.
Prevent by:
make the hair check part of your hair-washing routine
consider using medicated shampoo or tea-tree shampoo
children with longer hair must tie this back and if appropriate use hairspray before you come to school
We all need to work together to ensure head lice are not spreading, if we all do our part we can deal with this quickly and effectively - it's frustrating for other parents and expensive to keep having to treat repeat infections.
Further advice on the treatment of head lice can be found on NHS website. http:/www.nhs.uk/conditions/head-lice/pages/treatment.aspx
Thank you for your help with this.

So far we have learnt numbers to 10, colours and simple greetings. We used these to play games online and uno (which was our favourite)!
We had lots of fun last week making Easter baskets and learning about the German Easter traditions, like the Easter tree. We even learnt the German words for different easter items. We then got to make an Easter basket and go on an Easter egg hunt!
We can't wait for next term and more children to join us!
Paddock Wood Primary Academy has been awarded the Foundation Level, International Schools Award from the British Council. The judges had the following to say about our application.
"Congratulations to everyone at Paddock Wood Primary Academy on the successful start of your International School Award journey; You have met the requirements at this level i.e. introductory statements and a minimum of one appropriate activity and have successfully achieved the Foundation Level. The values at the heart of your work are admirable and great starting point for internationalism. Your application was fantastic and a joy to read; your overall cultural awareness and respect and attention to all aspects of different cultures is admirable. You demonstrated that internationalism in embedded in all aspects of your schoolwork; you are conscious of your limitations in your immediate environment and have taken steps to overcome it. Having chosen a book as your starting point you also instil love of learning and reading in students. This activity is a well-rounded and diverse one that expands to all various layers of each culture and deepens understanding of students. It is wonderful that you have also looked at culture at a personal level e.g. the way people from different cultures express themselves. The document you have included was amazing and shows the different dimensions of your work. Your second activity uses story telling which is relatable for younger children. The approach you took to look at variety of versions for one single story, hopefully will show the children there is more than one side to everything. In re-telling the stories they develop their skills as well. Also, bringing in classical music would have a massive impact in how they perceive music as well. Again, this is multi-dimensional outlook towards culture and expands their knowledge and understanding while developing their skills as well. Considering you already have links in Tanzania, you are not far from your next level achievement if you wish to apply for the Intermediate Level. Collaboration with your partner can be carried out via online tools as long as the students get to work with their peers directly. You will need to submit details of three international activities carried out during a twelve-month period prior to the application date: the activities should be enabling children to learn about other countries and aspects of their cultures in a curriculum-based context. One of the activities should be carried out in active and reciprocal collaboration with a partner school in a different country, by which pupils in the two schools should communicate and exchange/share information on a pre-agreed curriculum-based topic or theme, to facilitate intercultural comparing and contrasting, as well as enriching the learning outcomes. We hope you will be able to apply for Intermediate Level certification in the not-too-distant future and wish you success and enjoyment with your ongoing international work. Congratulations again, it was a very strong application, and we are looking forward to receive your next."
A huge well done and thank you to Mrs Ait-Mansour for pulling all the information together and for submitting
such a strong application.
