Mrs Fidock's news update
The Big Build went with a bang! The children had a wonderful day collaborating with their peers on their creations. The judges were blown away by the imagination and creativity of each year group and made in just 1 morning. Year 6 and EYFS will get a turn later in the year. Thank you to all those parents who came in to see the builds on display - the children were so excited to show you!
This week I also met with the Year Group Reps - we had a really positive meeting and came up with a number of points which included:
Agreed to look at the number of notifications sent out on MCAS to see if we can reduce these - currently there is no way to send out to clubs - only to year groups, we are working with Bromcom to try to change this.
Curriculum plans on the website are very detailed. If parents want to see what is being taught these curriculum maps are very detailed. A reminder that these can be found here:
https://sites.google.com/paddockwoodprimaryacademy.org.uk/pwpacurriculummap/home?authuser=0
All parents felt that Google Classroom, Weekly Newsletter and Facebook are working well in terms of communication and they didn't feel anything further was needed - but they will canvas opinion with other parents to see if there is anything missing.
Reps felt it would be helpful to have 'How we teach...' short videos so that parents can support with homework using the methods taught in school. I have explained that we will share the calculation policy on the website which shows different examples that may help - this is my action to complete asap.
Can we have another Bike/Scooter Shelter? We can apply for funding in September to have another shelter, I will speak with the Estates team who are responsible for this and ask them to apply asap.
All the Reps reported that their children are very happy at school, they love the achievement and Proud@ section in the newsletter and they love the Houses and House Points. Thank you to those parents that gave up their time and I'm looking forward to our next meeting in Term 5.
Next term is particularly busy, with SATs for Year 2 and Year 6, the Coronation event, 2 bank holidays, trips planned for a number of year groups and all in 6 weeks! We continue to hear rumblings of further strikes in April and May, we will update you asap if we think they will affect us.

ARCHER CLASS
Eshaana started Rainbows a few weeks ago and was very shy and nervous and needed a lot of support, but has now taken her Rainbows promise and started to stay at the group on her own. She's so proud of her progress, as we think she should be! Well done Eshaana, we are so proud of you!
felicity 2t
Felicity was awarded her Rainbow Gold Award on Thursday evening. This means she has earned all six theme awards and completed the final challenge. What a great achievement. Well done Felicity, we are so proud of you!
PWPA chess team
This term we ran our internal chess tournament, again as part of the national UK Chess Challenge (kindly supported by the PTA). The competition was fierce and standards were high with the lead changing hands several times and after 7 rounds, nothing could separate Kaelin and Chloe with 6 wins each. This meant a play-off which was tense and exciting with Kaelin eventually emerging the winner after a real battle. After her superb performance, Chloe was once again the Most Improved Player, with the Best Boy prize shared between Harry, Finlay and Sam. The U9 competition also came down to the wire with Jax needing a win against Bertie in the final match to claim the title. In the end, Bertie came away with the draw he needed to be crowned U9 champion.
The Big Build
This week, Y1 - Y5 took part in the Big Build challenge. It was a great opportunity for the children to show their teamwork, DT and engineering skills along with their creativity. The children did a fantastic job and created some masterpieces. Well done to everyone who took part. We look forward to seeing Y6 and EYFS take part in this challenge during Term 6.
