As you can see below, we have had an extremely busy and successful week. Children have fully embraced learning and celebrating the many cultures and traditions that we have in our wonderful school community. I would like to thank parents who have come into school and shared their culture with the children. I would also like to thank the Language Ambassadors, Mrs Stockbridge and Mrs Ait-Mansour who have organised this week.
In addition to all of this wonderful learning, Year 6 children had an assembly learning about First Aid and some children went to Mascalls and shared their brilliant PYP Exhibition learning with children from Horsmonden and Marden. The children and Year 6 team are looking forward to inviting parents into school to share their brilliant work in the coming weeks.
Reception children for the next academic school year joined us on Thursday morning. It was lovely to see them enter with such independence and excitement. The morning was a huge success and children left with big smiles on their faces. We look forward to having them back in next week. Our whole school transition morning is on Thursday next week. Please drop your children to their normal classes for morning registration. I realise this can be a anxiety inducing time for pupils and parents. Please know that all decisions we make are child centred and we will take every opportunity to ensure the transition to the next academic year will be successful.
I hope to see many of you at the PTA event after school today. Thank you very much for our wonderful PTA who have organised this new event for the whole school. Children are extremely excited and it will be brilliant to end the week in clouds of colour.
What an amazing week it has been! We have learnt so much from parents who have come into school to speak to the children about their cultural heritage, and we thank them for helping to make the week the success it has proved to be. Children, too, have been sharing their religious and cultural backgrounds with each other, bringing in items from home with a particular importance and proudly wearing traditional clothing. In class, children have enjoyed a wide range of activities: enjoying stories, music and dance from around the world, designing flags and posters celebrating diversity within our school and community, and even creating their own works of art inspired by disabled artists who paint with their feet or mouths. Throughout the week, the children have been champion inquirers whilst aso remaining principled in their opinions: listening with interest, asking questions respectfully and engaging fully and we have been really proud of their open-mindedness as they learnt about and embraced so many different aspects of diversity.
Starting with our youngest children we have loved learning about other people's cultures and traditions.
Year 1 were amazing when bringing in significant pieces or dressing in traditional clothing to represent and share diversity this week.
We loved hearing from everyone.
Year 2 have enjoyed being busy celebrating cultural diversity this week through a range of activities.
We have been dressing in traditional dress, enjoying listening to a parent share their culture in an assembly and creating cultural diversity flags.
We have been open-minded by learning new facts about cultures and celebrating differences.
Year 5 - A final reminder that the deadline to register your child to sit the Kent Test is Monday 1st July. If you are unsure as to whether you would like your child to take the test it is best to register them anyway - you can withdraw them any time up to the day of the test if you change your mind! Please see further details on how to apply in MCAS Announcements. If you have registered your child please also remember to complete the google form so we are aware and can check they have been registered correctly and make any necessary access arrangements.
Year 5 & 6 Transition Days/School Visits - Next week is a busy week for Secondary School transition visits and open events. If you have not already done so please email the school office at enquiries@paddockwoodprimaryacademy.org.uk or MCAS message to let us know if your child will not be in school due to attending one of these events. Please be aware that if they are attending a part day session they are expected in school before/after as appropriate. Children arriving from Mascalls on Thursday and Friday should return to school no later than afternoon registration at 1.50pm. If they are returning at 1.10pm for lunch and would like a school meal this must be requested in advance when reporting the absence.
Year 2 to Year 3 School Meals - From September your child will no longer receive free school meals as part of the universal infant free school meals scheme If you wish your child to continue having school meals from September you will need to make payment via MCAS. Meals are currently £2.50 per day.
Some families will already be eligible to continue receiving benefit related free school meals. If you have been receiving energy/supermarket/activity vouchers for school holidays this means that your child will continue to receive free school meals - You do not need to reapply.
If you have not been receiving vouchers and think your child may be eligible for free school meals it is important to apply. You can apply online at https://www.kent.gov.uk/education-and-children/schools/free-school-meals or we can complete an application on your behalf - we would just need you to provide your date of birth and national insurance number. Please contact the school office if you have any queries.

Year 5 took part in a sustainability workshop and competed against each other to create recycled artwork.
The children were filled with knowledge during a webinar presented by an arctic explorer, who told them some lovely stories about her time understanding our world. Then using only recycled materials the Year 5 team created three art pieces that are proudly displayed around the school.
Ms Gough is incredibly proud of all efforts made and pleased to announce 5H as the winners! They received their goodies from Wicked Weather Watch this week and had a great time creating beautiful inquiry work.
