Mrs Fidock's news update

It's been a lovely week for weather and learning.

Once again we had the moderators in school, this time to look at our Key Stage 1 work. They were impressed with the learning in Year 2 and agreed all our judgements - well done to the whole team. Year 4 have completed their Multiplication check this week - well done to the Year 4 team and particularly Mr Goodrich for sorting all the codes needed to practice.

Next week we have our Year 6 Scotland trip, which means we have quite a few staff off-site all week. We can't wait to hear about their adventures and how they have worked as a team. We wish them safe travels and we'll see them on Friday 24th June.

Tomorrow is our Summer Fayre, run by the PTA - please do come along and support this event, all money raised goes directly to the children and impacts on their school experience and learning. Thank you in advance for all their hard work and we look forward to seeing you there!

Have a lovely weekend and if you're celebrating Fathers' Day - have a lovely Sunday.

This week we are really proud of...

Millie 6C

Millie won her first jumping class last weekend at a show in Denne Hill near Canterbury. She has been working really hard to improve her riding and help her horse Molly with daily rehab exercises and it's finally paid off. She has also been excelling in Cross Country with a 2nd and 3rd in two events both with large classes of over 40 people including adults. Well done Millie and it's wonderful that all your hard work with Molly has paid off. Congratulations.

Mr Piercy &

Mrs Thorne-Large

Mr Piercy and Mrs Thorne-Large have both completed their Teacher Training and are now qualified teachers. They have both worked so hard to get to this point and we just want to say well done and huge congratulations.

Miss Miller

Congratulations to Miss Miller for completing some learning and passing her assessment. Just shows that it's not just the children that have to demonstrate learner profile attributes. Well done, we are really proud of you!

Curriculum corner

Each week we want to give you ideas to enable you to support your child at home with a particular aspect of the curriculum. Our subject leaders will be sharing hints and tips to help you along the way and will be offering further ideas and resources that you might like to access at home. This week our focus is.... online safety in EYFS.

Online safety for children under 5.

According to Ofcom’s most recent research, a significant proportion of children are already online by the time they start school, with 17% of 5-year-olds owning their own mobile phone and 50% using messaging platforms.

As becoming familiar with technology is generally encouraged in younger children – and has been essential for education during the pandemic – it is essential that trusted adults recognise both the benefits and the risks of infants and toddlers going online. We’ve compiled our top tips to help the under-5s start their online safety journey.

In the guide, you'll find tips such as managing screen time, block in-app purchases and using devices together.

Please can we remind parents that Paddock Wood Primary Academy is a nut free school. Please ensure your child does not bring nuts or items containing nuts (including Nutella) into school for snacks/packed lunches. We have members of our school community with serious nut allergies and we want to keep everyone safe.

Thank you

Staffing News

We have a number of staff leaving in July:

Mr Emmett will be leaving us to take a promotion across a small federation in Kent.

Miss Rowland is returning to Australia with her partner. (A slight silver-lining is that we will now have a link school in Australia!)

Mrs Leach is sadly moving to a new school, closer to home. She has promised to come back to do some supply when we need her!

Mrs Tipples is leaving teaching for the time being and supporting her family farm from September.

We say goodbye and thank you to Miss Baker, who has taken 2B since April.

Congratulations to all these staff on their new roles and we want to thank them for all their hard work at Paddock Wood over their time here. We wish them every success and we'll miss them.

We welcome:

Mr James who is moving here from South Africa, with his partner - he hopes to be in the UK before the end of term so he can visit Paddock Wood and meet his new class.

Ms Power will be joining us in September from an Ashford School, she's a fluent French speaker and so this will help us to strengthen our language learning even further.

Mr Chorley is coming from a school in Swanley. He will be taking over as Key Stage 1 Leader and brings experience to the team.

We welcome back:

We are very fortunate that PWPA has been linked with a STEM ambassador at Tonbridge Boys School which has enabled Year 6 to visit their wonderful science laboratories and take part in lots of exciting investigations, with the support of some of their students.

In addition, on Wednesday, their science team performed a very exciting chemistry show at our school for Year 5 and 6 students. Thankfully, after lots of bangs and smoke, the school is still standing!

We look forward to furthering our links with Tonbridge School next year and many more visits in the future.

We even saw flour burn - watch here:
