In Memory of Queen Elizabeth II

1926- 2022

Mrs Fidock's news update

During this national period of mourning it has struck me that sometimes we only see the bad bits about our World, rather than all the good. Over the last week, the processional events, speeches and images demonstrate that we do value the individual contribution that one person can make in their life-time. I'm not saying that what we all do day to day may be quite so momentous, but it is valued - particularly the 'good, constant and kind'.

We have continued to share with the children some of the changes that we will see over the coming days, weeks and months as King Charles III begins his reign. As we enter the Carolean Era, we have a chance to reflect on what this means as a country, a community and as an individual - what we value and what we may change.

As plans are confirmed, further information specifically relating to Kent will also be placed on this page https://www.kent.gov.uk/births-ceremonies-and-deaths/deaths/her-majesty-the-queen, highlighting events or initiatives that will happen throughout the mourning period and the locations of books of condolence. Therefore, please refer to this page periodically for the most up to date information.

There will be a National Moment of Reflection at 8pm on Sunday 18 September to mourn the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and reflect on her life and legacy. It will be marked by a one minute silence.

You can take part:

  • privately at home, with your friends and family

  • on your doorstep or street with your neighbours

  • at a community event.

Details of larger community events will be published on GOV.UK.

If you would like to record your own thoughts on the death of her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II there is also an online book of condolence which can be found here. https://www.royal.uk/

Office Messages

No Smoking: Please can we remind parents that there is strictly no smoking allowed within the school grounds.

This includes the carpark while waiting to pick children up from after school clubs.

Parking: Despite a plea in last week's newsletter - there are still people parking poorly at drop off, particularly in Ewins Close. Please don't park on yellow lines - they are there for a reason.

Thank you.

Shoe Box Appeal

We will be supporting the shoe box appeal this year. There are two ways you can help us support this:

  1. Collect a box from the school office and fill your own box as a family and then return to the office before half-term.

OR

  1. Contribute an item to go in a class box.

Shoebox Leaflet.docx

Classes will be picking either a Toy/Teenager/Household/Baby box to collect for and will let you know. You can then donate an item for the class box - suggestions above, ready for collection by half-term.

Please note the items NOT to be donated. Thank you for your help with this. Further information can be found at: https://www.rotaryshoebox.org/

Uniform

It's lovely to see the majority of children in their full school uniform.

Please could you ensure your child is wearing full uniform including school shoes - unless it's a PE day.

Girls skirts should be no shorter than just above the knee - some of them are getting a little too short - please help us with this.

A reminder that the only jewellery that can be worn is either a watch and/or stud earrings...similiar to the ones they are given when their have their ears pierced.

With the changing weather please ensure your child comes to school with a named waterproof coat - we like to get them outside even in light rain, so it's really important that they come prepared. Thank you.
