Mrs Fidock's news update

We've been a little blown about this week, but we've weathered the storm and have had a brilliant week of learning. Our bulbs that EYFS planted are beginning to flower and we can see the first signs of Spring - which has boosted our energy levels. This term we have our pre-authorisation visit from the International Baccalaureate which will then give us the go-head for our authorisation visit to become an IB World School.

Later this term we have our parents evening and on Monday you will recieve an interim report giving you key information which you can then discuss at the meetings.

Staffing wise, we have sadly accepted Miss Rabarts' retirement at Easter. We know that many of you have had Miss Rabarts teach your child/ren and we know she will be sadly missed by past and present students and families.

We hope you have a lovely weekend.

This week we are really proud of...

Ellie Durie 5R

Ellie in 5R is extremely proud to have donated 10 inches of her hair to the Little Princess Trust. Her target was £200 but she has raised an amazing £477, with more donations coming in.

She's now getting used to having shorter hair!!

Well done, Ellie!

hunter cane 4e

Hunter, in 4E, has competed in the BSHRA (British Siberian Huskey Racing Association) junior racing and has won the overall championship!

The championship consisted of around 16 races across a long season.

Hunter rides a 'rig' whilst being pulled along by his canine companion!

Well done Hunter, this is a fantastic achievement.

Curriculum corner

Each week we want to give you ideas to enable you to support your child at home with a particular aspect of the curriculum. Our subject leaders will be sharing hints and tips to help you along the way and will be offering further ideas and resources that you might like to access at home. This week our focus is....

Reading

With World Book Day next week, a love of reading is so important to encourage at home and at school.

How to encourage your child to read?

  • Read aloud and together: when children hear a book with expression, the book can sound more alive!

  • Talk: When reading a book, talk about the book.

  • If your child isn't enjoying the book they have, change it!

  • Visit the library or book shop: being surrounded and having a choice of books is brilliant!

  • Bring reading to life. If reading a book about trees, go for walk in a forest etc.

Dress up for World Book day is Wednesday 2nd March!

Don't forget, our sponsored read finished on Thursday 3rd March!

Book tokens will be given out also, for those who have made particular effort in reading.

Covid Vaccines for age 5 - 11 year olds

The NHS in Kent and Medway is now offering the Covid-19 vaccine to eligible children aged five to 11-years-old who:

  • are at higher risk from coronavirus due to underlying health conditions or

  • share living accommodation, on most days, with someone who has a weakened immune system

You can find more information about this here: COVID-19 vaccinations: A guide for parents of children aged 5-11 at high risk.

If they have an eligible child, parents will be invited to bring them to have the vaccine by their GP practice, a local vaccination service linked to their GP practice, or the NHS School-Aged Immunisation Service (SAIS).

Parents can either book an appointment directly with their GP, or use this link to book in with any provider: https://lvs.healthit.org.uk/patheks

Eligibility will be checked at the venue.

Thank you for your support

Kind regards

NHS Kent and Medway

vehicle access to site

We are continuing to ask parents not to drive onto the Academy site and are in the process of getting the barrier fixed so that cars need to be given access. Only those drivers with a blue badge or taxi's will be allowed on site and other cars will be asked to turn around or reverse - not an easy task, so don't get stuck!

Police cadets update

Our mini police cadets had a session on CPR this week and learnt how to put someone in the recovery position and alert the emergency services.

We learnt that you ask for Police for any crime or anti-social behaviour, Ambulance for any medical needs, Fire for any fire concerns or Sea Rescue for support if you are near a coast or area of water and someone is in danger.

Remember to always look for any dangers before approaching anyone that needs help and find an adult! If you ever find yourself alone and you need help phone 999 and explain which emergency service you need and why.
